Bungie is still working with their former owners, Microsoft, on Bungie's potentially last Halo game, Halo: Reach. Activision and Bungie's decade-long publishing partnership for an upcoming intellectual property comes as Halo: Reach is about to enter beta for a select number of users.
What does Microsoft think about the deal? The company has issued this brief statement:
"Our partnership with Bungie as a first-party developer for Xbox 360 remains unchanged," said a company spokesperson over e-mail this morning, "and right now we’re deeply engaged with them on the development of 'Halo: Reach,' which is poised to be the biggest game of 2010."
Activision was unlikely the only company Bungie spoke with about their post-Halo plans. For whatever reason, however, Bungie chose to go with a partner other than Microsoft for this one.

"for whatever reason" ... they want more than just xbox, it's pretty simple. more consoles more money.

MS still owns the Halo property and many of the best Halo minds are already at 343 anyway, Frankie . I'm a Halo fan but I think it's been pretty clear that Alex Seropean was a big loss, you could tell by playing Stubbs the Zombie that he had a huge effect on the feel of Halo CE that Bungie is trying to re-capture.

My guess is that Bungie shopped around for a third party publisher to make more money by going multi-platform. Look at the success FFXIII had. I can't help but think Activision must have givin them a huge deal to get them to sign with them, since this whole Infinity Ward thing. Activision is trying to distract everyone from the disaster the caused.

just think what Bungie could do with the bluray format/PS3 hope they dont get screwed over by Activision...I can hear the flame wars starting ...im gonna sit this one out and see what they have in store if they decide to go cross platform.

lol...Bungie gone Multi-plat, this is a shocker...I hope the X-Box Halo fanatics dont slit any wrists. Smart move by Bungie, the Halo franchise is dead and they know it hence this deal to go multiplat.
Best news i heard since week.

"For whatever reason"? Come on Patrick it is pretty obvious that the reason is that they want to go multiplatform with their next game. If they planned to put out another Xbox exclusive there would be no reason for them to of looked for a partnership outside of Microsoft. Unless they were able to get a better deal with Activision, but considering how much Microsoft loves Bungie for the Halo franchise, I doubt that.

I'm confused.
"Activision and Bungie's decade-long publishing partnership for an upcoming intellectual property comes as Halo: Reach is about to enter beta for a select number of users"
Is that supposed to say Microsoft?
And lets be glad that Bungie isn't with Activision, who knows what would've happened to the Halo property.

MS probably still owns Halo, so they don't care as much.

While I am happy that Bungie will have ownership of the upcoming IP I can't help but be scared that if it is any good that Activision will still find a way to beat it into the ground with 5 sequals coming out over the course of the 10 year agreement.

This is so surreal. I just can't conceptually understand that this has happened!
