Given the poor commercial reception of Ubisoft’s sword shooter Red Steel 2, it seems a bit unlikely that Ubisoft would reveal plans for a third game, but if you feel like picking up a handful of salt and reading on, then by all means.
The French Official Nintendo Magazine apparently included a blurb recently that not only suggested Red Steel 3 was in development, but that the game would support the use of Nintendo’s pulse reading Vitality Sensor. How exactly such a device would be incorporated into a game about shooting and stabbing dudes is beyond me, which is why I told you to grab that salt earlier.
I’ve contacted Ubisoft to see if they feel like clarifying any of this, so stay tuned.
Likelihood of this rumor being true: 34.72 percent

You die in real life, you die in the game...wait, what?

This is interesting in terms of new technology being utilized for the industry. However, I am seriously questioning the usefulness and relevance the technology is to deepening the experience of this game and video games in general. True, I could see its application to other types of games like WiiFit's Yoga or or horror game (I would have loved it for Dreamcast's Illbleed). But honestly, how useful would the Vitality Sensor be for Red Steel? Do they want to see how 'pumped' you are and reward you for it? This just seems like a path a la 'Crank' (Jason Statham movie) that I don't see being successful.
There's all this tech going into the industry claiming to deepen the whole experience of video games. Nintendo did it successfully with motion control and touchscreen and Sony and Microsoft are jumping in with the former. However, sometimes I feel that companies are relying on and focusing too much on the 'innovative technology' to sell games rather than focusing on making a good game itself, focusing on gimmicks rather than a quality product. Honestly, if I wanted to check my pulse I will buy something at Brookstone. So technology is good but I'll settle for a good controller or mouse and keyboard game any day.

I'm not a fan of samurai western settings so I didn't get it, and if they change things up again, then it might be worth a look, but I can't really see myself buying a 3rd installment of a failed idea.
The vitality sensor, I'd guess, could be used to slow time in certain moments of battle if you're calm enough, but since Nintendo hasn't told us all of what it does, there's no real way to know.
