The SyFy network has wrapped up a deal with publisher THQ to bring the publisher’s Red Faction franchise to the small screen in the form of a two-hour movie that could also serve as a “back-door pilot” for a potential television series as well.
“It is the kind of content that fits our genre,” senior VP of SyFy ventures recently told Broadcasting & Cable. “It is a great fit for a big Syfy Saturday movie, and if it really works, it is a great back-door pilot.”
Details about the movie are nonexistent at this point, which isn’t that surprising since, as a senior THQ executive told me this morning, THQ didn’t want to reveal the Red Faction movie deal just yet. Why news of the deal was released prematurely isn’t known, but expect to hear plenty more about the project soon.
The Red Faction marks the second major video game inspired cross-media effort between Syfy and THQ to be announced over the past few months. Back in February, it was revealed that the companies were developing an animated TV series based on THQ’s de Blob as part of Syfy’s new Syfy Kids brand.
In addition, THQ will also be developing games based on Syfy shows going forward, starting with Ghost Hunters Academy for Nintendo DS, iPhone and iPad.

they should have picked Mass Effect.

This would be a good news IF it weren't for being on what is left of the Sci-Fi turned SyFy Channel. Sorry to say this but Red Faction really is a open book to write since there are NO major iconic characters to develop or cash in on. Which could be a curse or a blessing depending on who receives the writing duties. Now that one part of my three part equation is listed now they need quality Special Effects [Part 2] and a decent advertising campaign to generate interest beyond just the RF Fans [Part 3]. I am hoping for the best but expecting the worst [and my worst is probably a thousand times better than the garbage films they produce].

All SYFY movies suck in my opinion, so whats no stopping this movies from being like the rest

Heh...I got your "Backdoor Pilot" right here!
I CAN'T be the only one who chuckled a bit at that term, right?

Yay!: Red Faction movie!
No!: SyFy Channel! : (

nice. although syfy makes bad movies, space ones tend to be ok.

As long as Uwe Boll doesn't have any involvement with this, it should be good. :)

This is terrible news for THQ, a great studio. Why would they get into bed with these whoreish purveyors of wrestling smackdown? SyFy is guilty of some of the most hideous made-for-TV abortions on cable. Red Faction is a premium title, worthy of at least a TV series on a network that game
erds aren't already boycotting.

Honestly? This sounds kinda cool, I'm looking forward to this. Could do a lot worse than SciFi (can we at least drop the dumb spelling though?).

It is the kind of content that fits our genre, senior VP of SyFy ventures
would that genre be sci-fi by any chance?
BONERJAM
