Love him or hate him, director Paul W.S. Anderson has an intimate relationship with video games and their representation in Hollywood. Anderson directed Mortal Kombat, a movie that made the film-maker a breakout force in the United States, and has ushered in four Resident Evil films.
At the 3D Gaming Summit in Los Angeles this week, Anderson was a keynote speaker, and he was asked about shooting Resident Evil: Afterlife in 3D, whether studios are overdoing it with 3D in upcoming films and how the expansion of 3D could bleed into games.

First and for most i find it hard to believe that he has played ANY of the resident evil games given that "his" movies completely changed the entire original storyline of series and the iconic characters are completely bastardized. Its also a bit annoying that he never really answered any of the questions he was asked especially when they went to the audience. third i find it hard to believe that he and his team sat with 3d glasses on for 18 hours a day. Thats a huge load of BS. Lastly i hate the fact that he is talking up 3d gaming when he has no experience in gaming. Ive yet to meet someone who thinks 3d gaming is a good idea. they might as well through 100 million dollars in the trash and say they tried. 3d not even out yet and im already tired of it.

Anderson Has Made 3 Good Movies In His Whole Career: Resident Evil, Event Horizon And Pandorum (Mortal Kombat Is A Nominee); everything else Is Slop. I don't care what he has to say he's not one to speak of the change in technology. He may have been in the industry for 16 years but does not do enough to have major influence.

I just think that the main reason why Hollywood is pushing 3D so much is because they make twice as much on 3D tickets then they do on normal tickets. Say two movies come out at the same time, the 3D one makes more money and wins the box office because the tickets cost more even though they sell less tickets than the non 3D movie that sold more tickets. 3D will be the down fall of movies. They put too much into the 3D aspect of the movies that they'll just look over the more important parts of the movies. Plus they act like 3D was never done before! Does no one remember when they tried 3D in the 80s and 90s!? They failed.
Also, I like Milla Jovovich. She's one of the only females in Hollywood who will actually try to do her own stunts and try to get in the shape for the role. She's not the kind of actress who goes, "oh no, I might break a nail." No, she tries to fit the role and do the stunts her self. I like that in an actress.

I don't like that he specifically said that he tried to put water and ash into the movie just for the 3d effect, it feels like he's just feeding the gimmick, kinda like wii games adding in motion just to have motion even tho the game would work better if it wasn't there.

I lack depth perception.. thus I have never really experienced the full breath of 3D....same thing with the glasses or without...which is surprisingly about the same as watching a movie while buzzed...
Regardless...I'm not that big a fan of Paul...thus don't really care to bother with the vid..
his movies tend to be better when he's working on original properties....aside from Mortal Kombat which is the exception that proves the rule....

I don't think I have ever or will ever wish for anything to fail as much as 3D gaming and activison's crap(monthly fees and for cod and relationship with i.w)James Cameron's avatar(the game) was a massive failure, so that was a start.

So, a guy who makes fartastic movies has an opinion on 3D? Woopity doooooo! Also, anyone who would stick up for Paul Wank Sauce Anderson is fail. The fact that he's banging Jovovich says a lot more about her than him. He's just a kid with a movie camera and she's desperate for roles. She hasn't been in a good movie since The Fifth Element. She banged the director of that well enough to get him to marry her.
Unless it can be done properly, 3D is just a gimmick. All it proves is that mediocre movies like Avatar can make money.

The question about "The Departed" and its "improvement" with 3D really is the pivotal question.
If only bad movies benefit from 3D, it's not worth my time/money; equally true for video games.
However, I feel that these assessments are a little premature. This could have been said about games going from the 2D sprites to 3D models, but we all love our current gaming with this transition. The difference? A good game is a good game, whether or not it has gimmicks. This is why I'm replaying my Pokemon Red on Zerogame; it's a good game. It doesn't have any sort of 3D, it just has good gameplay that is worth several hours. Will it happen with "real" 3D? I really don't know.
All it takes is someone who is talented enough to utilize this new technology within gameplay. This happens with each new technology that gaming has acquired; games suck because it's all tech and no substance, then developers with a real idea make a game after seeing all the suckiness mixed with tech, and finally you get decent games. As Sessler said on his soapbox, we are finally getting some good games.
Interestingly, this generation of consoles is supposed to double the life expectancy of previous generations (the 5yr rule turns 10yr), but this 3D fad is entering the gaming universe right around the 5yr mark. The consoles aren't changing, the presentation is, but can/will have just as much impact as a XB720, PS4, or Wii HD. You don't have to agree with this last paragraph, I just find it an interesting observation.

no one wants to watch tv at home in 3D, its only good in small burst like the movies and a few movies at home, but not everyday.
I just can't stand it, i already have glasses and it becomes a real hassle, and when ever i looked around in the picture its always out of focus and starts to hurt my eyes/head.
3D hopefully will just pass as before, til THE TECHNOLOGY CAN CATCH UP and display it without glasses

So, basically he is saying that with 3D it's possible to make boring movies that look cool..If that is the case what's the point of buying the dvd or blu-ray unless you have a 3D HDTV? I think of movies like "the Departed" or "Training Day" would they have been better with 3D?.....then it's still a gimmick as far as films go, but I really do see potential for 3D use in almost any video game..

I'm not saying that I don't like 3D visuals, however, it's not as amazing as Hollywood seems to think it is. The worst element about 3D visuals happens when they begin to put things out of focus that you aren't supposed to be looking at. It's extremely effective if you are looking where they want you to, but if your eyes drift...even for a second...it's incredibly disorienting. I don't think 3D is the next step for entertainment. It's still just a gimmick, albeit an expensive and flashy gimmick, but a gimmick nonetheless.
