A couple years ago, fans of the legendary Oddworld game series got excited when Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun said he was involved with a new Oddworld game that featured a 3D animation system that will "look as good as a CG movie." Sadly, we may have to wait awhile for this title; according to Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning, a fifth game in the series is currently not the top priority for his company.
"There's a lot of things on the shelf right now," Lanning said when asked about the new game. "We had a few on the fire, and they're still on the shelf...there's a lot of shakeup going on [in the gaming industry] and in that turmoil, we didn't really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it, so we're working on some other things that we'll be announcing shortly."
"We want to really aggressively experiment at this time, and we didn't want to really experiment aggressively with that brand," he added.
As for what Lanning plans to announce, he said, "What we're working on now is more of a platform issue, not an IP. I can't go into much more description than that."
It's not all bad news for fans of Oddworld, though. According to Lanning The Oddbox, a collection of all four of the Oddworld Xbox games, will be available on Steam for PCs in 2010.

the first four games were amazing,and maybe it is better if they take longer to do the next game... wonder HOW long it will be... ive been waiting five years baby. i love oddworld and all, but damn this seems long. oh well, they know what they're doing . i trust oddworld with all my passion for them :)

Oddworld... I have watched my older brother play that game since he was 4 and i was 2.... It has been in our lives for awhile... Can't wait until the Oddbox!

My sister played the heck out of Munch's Odyssey when I wasn't playing Halo or Dead or Alive.
That combo pack would have sucked by 66.666& if she hadn't gotten a kick out of Munch

I'm a huge Oddworld fan. I loved Munch's Oddysee, but never got around to Stranger's Wrath.
Hopefully we'll see a multiplatform release of the next Oddworld game!

sorry to have to correct you steve, but only two of the Oddworld games came out for the Xbox. Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus both launched on the pc and PSX long before the Xbox was even a twinkle in Microsoft's eye. Hell i was still a "tween" when the first one was released back in 1997. Such a great series...'97...damn now i feel old

damn. I hope theyre keeping up. They've been away for a while now. Id hate to see a new game get released in the near future with outdated gaming mechanics or something. I mean, Im a huge fan of the first two and stranger's wrath, but going this long without making a game to be publicly criticized can lead to some bad things. I guess Im just left with a lot of questions, like most of us. Oddworld inhabitants is the gaming equivalent of willy wonka's chocolate factory. It seems that no one ever goes in and no one ever comes out but everyone outside just expects something great.

imo Munch's Oddysee was the second-best Xbox Launch title after halo. and maybe Jet Set Radio Future... which needs to come back too. at least put them on the arcade for us, M$?
