World of Warcraft's Celestial Steed: Verdict?

Celestial Steed World of Warcraft

It's been over a week since Blizzard first put flying mounts available for sale on their website, and while I think the crystal steed is particularly awesome-looking, I'm not convinced it's worth $25. While the cosmetics are nice, the mount won't provide a boost to your flying skill, so it's not as if people are buying better gameplay, just status. And it seems to be working. Apparently, Blizzard sold $2 million dollars worth of fake animal in the few hours after it launched. Not bad at all.

Given its history of making great, balanced games, I don't expect Blizzard to start selling items that actually increase player stats, and thus give huge advantage to richer players -- I think they're wise enough to know that unbalancing their game would have WoW players leaving in droves -- but still, there's something a little creepy to me about the Celestial Steed and the willingness of players to snap it up.

It makes sense to me to pay $15 a month to play a game (if it's good) but paying $25 for a graphical enhancement just seems silly. Thoughts? Have you guys been flying around on glass horses in WoW?
