Xbox Live

According to financial news site Bloomberg, Microsoft and former News Corp. President Peter Chernin have had talks to discuss the possibility of an Xbox Live television channel being added to the service.

According to unnamed sources "with knowledge of the proposal," Chernin would like to create a station featuring original programming and re-runs aimed at the demographic of young men who like games. The programming would be funded by a fee tacked onto Live's service. Perhaps interested gamers would pay an extra dollar or two a month for access to the private channel.

“Peter is talking to lots of people about lots of ideas in the digital space,” Allan Mayer, Chernin's publicist told Bloomberg. Microsoft has declined to comment. Microsoft has reportedly not responded to the proposal yet, and offered no comment on the deal.

Chernin is widely considered to be one of the most powerful media executives in the world, and has been credited with the success of Fox's cable operations. So the guy know programming... but will it work?

Chances are you are a member of the young male demographic who likes video games, so let me throw it to you: What kind of programming would you need to pay an extra couple bucks a month to watch a premium TV channel on Xbox Live?

Nice of them to totally brush aside the chick gamers on LIVE, but in all fairness...anything usually aimed at my demographic tends to be epic fail. Ah well.

Rather than stuffing it on the Xbox, get it on G4. The world needs less Cheater's reruns.

That depends.... If there's commercials on it, then it should be free. Just like broadcast tv is free with commericals

I will gladly buy a PS3 if MS raises the monthly rates. It is almost too high as it is. I don't use XBOX Live for anything other than online multiplayer gaming. This NEEDS to be an optional charge for an optional service much like Netflix. What if you have already bought a yearly membership? Would that then be invalid and a cause for service to be canceled? MS needs to realize that there is a FREE option out there that is gaining on them (ie PS3).

It would have to be something awesome like free pay per view or every game of the Stanley Cup playoffs streamed to my XBox for me to pay for it

No, I will not happily pay an extra fee for this. Don't tread on me Microsoft.

What's the point of doing any video exclusives on Xbox Live? Some kids will just upload it to YouTube. Don't divert resources. Concentrate on games. Make more things like 1vs10. Give paying members a couple of free Game Room games. Stuff like that makes us glad to pay for the service.

Awesome, now hopefully M$ will use the ad revenue generated by said TV station to offer Xbox Life for free, as it should be.

I'm Anit Cable right Now I see tv threw my mac and movies solely through my xbox360 and netflix, I don't think we should pay for tv unless it's Hbo or showtime, But I would wait and see before I make any judgement.

I'd like to see entertainment options, similar to an OnDemand service from Comcast, except geared more towards the demographic described. I used to tune in to G4 100% of the time, but now I only watch Xplay and AOTS (which are really the only two shows that are gaming related anymore on G4). On top of game programming, I'd like to see some anime, because there's not enough choice when it comes to that type of programming.

I guess extreme sports type of shows wouldn't be too bad, such as Ninja Warrior. Beyond that, maybe some programming about tips and tricks for different games, or how to achieve some of those hard to achieve trophies.

    So TLDR
    Game Previews
    Game Tips+Tricks (including achievement tips)
    Game Reviews
    Anime
    Extreme Sports

And that's how I would run a network. But that's just me.

Meh....more money for another service that kicks you off during your movie, due to lack of bandwidth. Yea, that's what I want... Hey Microsoft why don't you just make xboxlive better?

I think this is a waste of time, how many video game related shows can there be? they better not fill up most of their time slots with shows like cops, cheaters and totally outrageous behavior like another tv network I know

To pay that extra ( I already have netflix) I want to see GOOD G4 shows on the channel, Hey G4 staffers listen to this, My friend and I play this game where every time we turn on G4 (especially on lazy sundays or saturdays) we make a bet that it is either CHEATERS or COPS. He always picks cheaters, I pick cop. GUESS WHO WINS CAN YOU GUYS TELL ME?! Cops.. On so damn much... /rant
as for that xbl tv, I would like to see some military channel shows, travel (cause those watching must not get out much) and I love those food shows, and some nicktoons(yeah never happening),
    and all with sports updates...

I've always though that Xbox should make a Streaming of some sort of television. Like if Xbox were to start programming and have "televised" versions of all those inside Xbox videos, and air episodes of the guild, or Red Vs Blue. i was thinking that this would come with the XBL subscription, and there would be advertising every now and then.

this is good news for me since I only pay for internet not TV (id rather not sell out an extra 70 bucks!) so if I can get my TV though xbox live it will solve my boredum problem.

b/c in all honesty the shows and movies on netflix streaming are so bad I MEAN SO BAD id rather watch paint dry. I really shows how bad movies in the 80's were
    !
