Konami certainly have their work cut out for them with the upcoming franchise reboot Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Not only do they have to deal with the baggage that comes with contributing to a beloved franchise, but the game also shares several not-so-subtle elements with other epic action games like God of War, Dante’s Inferno and Shadow of the Colossus (all of which arguably owe a lot to the original Castlevania games, but that’s the topic for another time).
During Konami’s recent Gamer’s Night, I had the chance to speak with Lords of Shadow produce Dave Cox to find out more about the game, its epic titan battles and how Konami has approached the high profile reboot.
“We wanted to make Castlevania mainstream again, and also, Japan wanted to make a Castlevania appeal to Western players. So this game is taking elements of the previous games, but really expanding on them, and doing new things in terms of delivering story, for example, a powerful story, which we haven’t had in a Castlevania game before.”

I liked the 3 d one the first time they tryed on the nintendo 64 I never got into any other 3d ones after. I kinda feel like they are losing the very nature of what castlevania originally stood for. The beautiful and haunting music......the gothic graphics.......the homage to classic horror icons and most importantly to Dracula. The first nes game had an impact on me especially with its music. I rank the og castlevania up there with ghost n goblins for the best video game music of all time.

hey look ANOTHER dante's inferno...

I hope people really don't try to say this is another GOW esque game. Honestly, in the article above, it states that Castlevania predates all this and it really does. Everyone was disappointed in the 2 ps2 versions of the game. The one even closest to "decent" was Lament of Innocence. I just hope they don't mess this up. But regardless, I'm a big fan of this series and will be waiting in anticipation for its release.

hahah i so forgot about this game, glad to see some more info, the combat reminds me of GOW from a first glance, but thats not a bad thing, i hope we get a demo tho

This game looks promising, I hope there is blood tho b/c I don't feel like I am slashing something when it does not bleed.
Also its time to call games this gen, b/c to be next gen is something we will see in a few years

I can't wait for this game, honestly I hope no one is ignorant enough to call this a clone of God of War or Shadow's Colossus since Jake is right those games all took something from the other Castlevania games. I see a whip and a cross being used how I figured they would be used in a 3D game but I also hope they make this game their own and unique in even a small way
BlackLable69
I cant wait.....but damn man you look blazed
ultra man 38

So far every OTS Castlevania game has been awful....I will not judge this in advance, but I EXPECT it to be terrible.

Does this comment make anyone else cringe or is it just me? I find it weird when comapnies say this cause in my experience the game usually turn out bad. Many people that are fans of Castlevania loved SotN and that came out at a time when 3-D was the big thing in west and it did just fine as far as I know.
jungleman67
symphony is great. looking forward to this

Cant wait to play it! The only bad part about it is knowing that every article that's ever going to mention this game will inevitably mention God of War. Hot Holy Crap...I'm sick of hearing comparisons to GoW...
blueboykc
sounds good looks really awesome...too bad its just gonna get raked over the coals for being a "god of war clone" but as long as it does something to differentiate itself to some degree i dont see that thats a bad thing..lookin forward to this one..
symphony of the night is one of the greatest games ever made....i do wish they would do another one like it for xbox live..i think there are enough fans out there that would pony up money for it to make it worth their while..
RickAstin
so what ye both saying is you want a new supermario bros/ bionic commando re-armed/Shadow Complex like take on castlevania?
If so... well I think that everyone should want that regardless of a fully 3D adventure...
-shrugs-
guerillap1mp
i think they should make another sidescroller like sotn with new weapons, a new bigger castle, new magic, new relics, and new transformations. i also liked the that u could press down forward or down back to do the weapon specials. the only weapon that i remember that did a special move with down back was the fist of tulkas.
UltimaBlackMage
I can honestly say that I'm getting repled by this game. The more I see this game, the more I remember how bad the 2 PS2 games were. I prefer the 2D games and I know games do evolve over time, but why did Castlevania have to evolve into God Of War? Sure God Of War is awesome but the clones are never as good.
RickAstin
"a powerful story, which we haven t had in a Castlevania game before."
Tossing a little oil on the flame no?
Then again who wouldn't want people to be in a tizzy over their game... no publicity is bad publicity right?
