"Tournament Mode," which introduces a slew of fan-demanded tournament-style features to Super Street Fighter IV, won't be available when the game launches on April 27. Instead, it will be released as free downloadable content for the game a little over a month later on June 15.
Traditionally, fans have to orchestrate bracket-style tournaments on their own through poorly drawn whiteboard layouts. With "Tournament Mode," the game handles the heavy lifting now.
It's unfortunate the mode won't be available at launch, but Capcom rationalized the wait as a period where Street Fighter fans can beef up their skills in preparation for the tournaments.
"Tournament Mode" will also allow Capcom to have officially sponsored online tournaments, where players can compete for special titles only available through winning Capcom contests.
