Halo: Reach Multiplayer Beta To Feature

My good friend Thierry "Scooter" Nguyen over at 1UP (my former place of employment) filed a report on Halo: Reach's four new multiplayer modes that we'll be experiencing for ourselves in just a couple short weeks (May 3, to be precise). Here are the basics:

Headhunter

  • When you get whacked, you drop a skull on the playing field that can be collected. The objective is to collect and return the most amount of skulls.
  • If you're killed while carrying skulls, you drop 'em all and are a disappointment to your team.
  • But while you're carrying skulls, you can still use all of your weapons and abilities.

Stockpile

  • An amped-up version of Capture the Flag, the goal of Stockpile is to collect and return multiple flags that pop up in random areas on the map.
  • There are four flags that can appear randomly in around 10 different pre-set areas.
  • Every 60 seconds, points are scored for each flag currently in your scoring area (even if the enemy is carrying them).

Generator Defense

  • It's 3 Spartans facing off against 3 Elites in an attack & defend scenario. Elites are trying to destroy the three generators on the map, the Spartans are trying to prevent that.
  • There are two rounds of 5 minutes, with teams swapping roles at halftime.
  • At the beginning of the round, a weapon drop occurs that might include the Spartan Laser, Sniper Rifle, or Rocket Launcher. This will throw a wrench into your generator-defense/assault strategy, as both teams will assuredly want to have maximum armaments.

Invasion

  • Not too many details on this mode yet, other than it's heavily vehicle-based, 6v6, and will be on a map larger than Halo 3's Sandtrap.

    Headhunter seems like an ramped up version of Oddball, 'cept you can shoot now. Niiiice.

    And I like how they balanced out Stockpile.
    If its a 4v4 match, it'll be a 1v1 per flag right out of the gate, instead of getting gang-banged by the entire opposing squad, just for the one flag.
    Of course, the annoying part will be people who memorize the order in which those flags "randomly" appear in saide 10 different preset areas.

    Loving the sound of Generator Defense though.

    I just hope Firefight gets included in Reach.

    Hmm why are people fighting over games, now-adays do we have nothing better to do, but anyway halo reach i love halo, and reach seems awesome

    ur on crack 12v12 would be lame. u wouldnt be able to walk anywhere without being one shotted cause everyone would just focus fire. 6v6 is fine. and they didnt announce slayer and team slayer, because those are basic standard game types. no FPS game is going to NOT have a slayer/deathmatch mode. thats just... foolish

    why would they make invasion 6v6 on a map larger than sandtrap? doesnt make sense to me.

    I'm actually hoping for more players per map ratio, like an epic 12v12 or something even bigger than that. I suppose I am hoping for too much.

    the modes dont catch my attention. i want a horde mode that supports 4 players, and classic slayer.

    this will wipe out cods ass.did you know this will be bungies last game because some modern warfare person pretended to be a bungie person and framed bungie for something illegal and now this is bungies last game because of some dum-ass drunk call of duty hoboe

    hmmm like the other guy said..Invasion....6v6? not much of an invasion force...

    yes yes theyre spartans! but still. Invasion should be epic 24 player but i hope they come up with something truly epic. Hell even 2 AI buddys a piece followin a player around would be awesome.

    12 + 2x12= 36......im dreamin.

    Thanks for the update, don't know why but I have some feeling that Invasion, although being six players v. six players, that there may be AI as well since so many more AI can be supported than players (atleast in single player any way).
