Here's a crazy, out-of-left-field, WTF style rumor: According to "mysterious sources" quoted by game blog Destructoid, 2K games is working on a BioShock MMO. Although there's little evidence of the truth or falsity of this rumor, it's an interesting idea.
I'm on the fence as to whether an MMO set in the city of Rapture is a great idea or the worst idea. Rapture in the first two games is such an elegant and weird place, I'd love to "live" there full-time, but on the other hand, nothing ruins the strange and mysterious more completely than sharing it with a bunch of normal people. Imagine a room full of Splicer avatars with names like "DarthVader443" testing out the new dance animations or gossiping about the relative merits of different plasmids.
Anyway, we've consulted with our super-rumor-computer and have determined that this rumor has a 43 percent chance of being true.

It's Destructoid. Zero credibility.

BOMB and EPIC FAIL! I cannot see people spending 15.00 a month for this MMO at all.

I honestly believe that if done properly it could work out very nicely. Like if you can play as a little sister and then you would need to find some one playing as a big daddy, the two would balance each other out, BD's being slow but powerful and LS's being quick and weak but can heal and obtain ADAM for the BD. Splicers would be an easy class to make for an MMO version, and as far as chat that would break the mood it could have a similar set up to guild wars where certain areas, like clubs and other high traffic public areas, would be separated from the game play maps to keep the atmosphere from being ruined. It would also be a neat idea to do like WOW did and have different advances happen, like start out with the new Rapture then over time release updates that slowly morph Rapture into what we know and love from the original Bioshock. Character models would change with the updates too, to show the slow but sure decline of the sanity and structure to the city and it s people.

Isn't this "news" like a year old?
Srsly...this was on The Feed back when Bioshock 2 was in development....how can this be out of left field?

I could see it and i don't think it would be bad at all.
Why is everyone such purists when it comes to Bioshock? What is it about this game that gets everyone so up in arms over expanding on it. I feel like i've explored about 1% of rapture in the 2 games so far. I think a really well developed Rapture would be the stuff of MMO dreams.

Please no.

If they do something like APB it might work, but I can't see a living breathing Bioshock MMO.

an mmo...oh no! i could see them doing an online- only shooter being made with a lot more elements than the multi player mode of 2. giving access to way more plasmids, ability sets, and weapons, and featuring an even better level up/ ranking system and a lot more areas from rapture. come on tho, an MMORPG, that would be a big fan disservice!

Jean-Paul Sartre sums up my thoughts on MMO's pretty well...
"Hell is other people."

oh for the love of...no, you know what, no! i refuse to dignify this with attention. as if creating a sequel to a game that should have stood on its own wasn't bad enough...
cmdluke
that's silly.
