Visceral Games’ action-horror series Dead Space has already been turned into a comic book series and an animated comic, and later this year, the game’s narrative will be expanded even further with the prequel novel, Dead Space: Martyr.
Published by Tor Books and penned by popular horror author B.K. Evenson, Martyr “delves into the back story of the fiction including the history of the Church of Unitology, the discovery of the enigmatic ‘Black Marker’ and the mysteries behind an alien artifact of unknown power.”
“The Dead Space world is incredibly vast and rich -- expanding its fiction into a novel lets us share parts of the story that just can’t fit into videogames. We hope Dead Space: Martyr will be the first of many books to let fans dive deeply into Dead Space’s secrets and immersive lore,” Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis explained in an official press release.
Dead Space: Martyr goes on sale in July for $14.99.
Are you a fan of novels based on game franchises? What are some of the better ones?

I love game based books... I've read all the Halo, Gears of War, Endwar, Ghost Recon, all but the 2 newest Splinter Cell, the 1st Mass Effect, and reading the 2nd one now. I enjoy getting all the "behind the scenes" & backstory info. As long as it retains some continuity with the game story, I'm in. Where is the Dragon Age book?? Talk about lore, that game has it in spades!! Fallout, Uncharted, & Bioshock might make good reads as well.

I liked the Hellgate: London books, and the Mass Effect ones are pretty decent.

The Halo books were VERY good. I also liked the Gears of War book "Aspho Fields". I enjoyed the Mass Effect books as well.

Eh, I was afraid this would happen. I like the lore of Dead Space, but prefer they not spread it out in so many different forms of media. Oh well. I'll get this novel anyway, since it apparently covers so much backstory.

Even though the writing based of off games and movies is usually sub-par imo, ill be picking this up. The dead space universe IS incredibly vast and rich, and I would love to learn more about it.

I'll without a doubt pick this up.
I loved the 2 Gears of War books, especially the second one, "Jacinto's Remnant", which takes place after the end of Gears 2.

The books i've read based on game franshises have been pretty good. The halo books were pretty dang good in my opinion. Hopefully this book will do the amazing game universe of Dead Space justice!
