UPDATE: 2:00 p.m. PST - Ubisoft just posted an update on Twitter, saying, "Freezing issues with Splinter Cell: Conviction have been resolved. Happy sneaking."
Attention Splinter Cell: Conviction players. Ubisoft has some important information to share with you about the wide-spread freezing issues that are cropping up in the game: avoid the release-day update!
Turns out that the title update Ubisoft put out today is causing something funky to happen during the game’s second mission, resulting in the always appreciated game freeze. Ubisoft is well aware of the issue, and posted the following message on the game’s official forum:
“We are currently investigating a freezing issue seen in the title update that was released for Splinter Cell: Conviction on the Xbox 360 this morning. This issue only happens after installing the update and we have asked Microsoft to remove the update for the time being until we can determine the cause and fix the issue. If you have installed the update please remove it and play through the impacted mission again.”
A number of readers reported encountering the freezing issue, so hopefully removing the update will solve those problems.

Good to know that Ubisoft is finally stepping up to the plate with this issue. God knows they ingored the save files error in Farcry 2; they still haven't acknowledged it, or responded to complaints about it, and that error is on ALL 3 (360, PS3 and PC)platforms...

um so you people saying they better fix it for ps3 version, it's not even coming to ps3 people so no need to worry ubisoft said long time ago it's not going to be on ps3.

I played through the mansion level on up to half way through the military base trying to get to the Grim's car last night before I started getting too sleepy. I had no freezing problems. And by the time I read this I guess it was fixed. Either way I love the game. :D

Guess all those years they spent making a five hour long game still weren't enough to make it playable.

Oh thanks Ubisoft, now can you fix the problem on Farcry 2? I know that no one plays it anymore...but I liked it...until my saves went corrupt. Haven't touched the game since.

It froze on me earlier... If I play it now and it freezes again, I'm going to be pissed. They better have fixed this crap instead of making a work-around. I'm not deleting my cache.

The issue has been resolved, you should now be able to play without further problems.

Typically additional updates are due to time constraints on a project. Perhaps they ran out of time for fixing an issue in the game but they had to meet the deadline for the release date. I'm sure there could be other reasons too. Hey, at least they're trying to stay on top of things. A way around having to not do the update is to play the game without being connected to the internet, as Hydrafiend alluded to in a previous post.
