There have been some new developments regarding Jason West and Vincent Zampella, the two heads of Infinity Ward that left the company under unique circumstances. As of this week they announced they would be creating Respawn Entertainment, a developer partnered with EA that would retain the rights to all the intellectual properties they develop. While this isn't a first in the world of gaming, these kind of deals are reserved for the select few, so The Sess decided to use this week's Soapbox as a forum for discussing what this may mean for the gaming industry as a whole. I think video games are here for us so we can have fun. I don`t care if people don`t like them or want to fight over if its an art form. I`m here to have fun an enjoy them. when your online you see so many people having fun and enjoying that experience that we all love.

Several developers keep their own IP... Gearbox kept Brothers in Arms IP -- and while I didn't hear anything from a developer about anything later than Brothers in Arms -- I don't see why they wouldn't own Borderlands too.
The problem for developers from my perspective isn't owning their IP... it's successfully releasing *something* as an independent.
Most indies end up cuddling up with a big publisher or never leave the cycle of working on other people's stuff.

i can't really say i like how big gaming is getting, i mean most films now a days are terrible, and the same applies to television. do we really want to see gaming turn into that?

Microsoft should just buy EA, Activision and West and Zambella. Place West and Zampella with Epic Games to create Infinately Epic Studios! Possibly creating an exclusively XBOX franchise (unless Sony coughs up serious dough).

The good news is that we are getting to see a rise in the quality of work of video games. W&Z making Respawn is akin to Neil Gaiman writing comics, or Spielburg directing a movie. We know what that team is capable of before we ever see the game.
I'm pretty sure that I'll be anticipating the first Respawn Studios game, even if they call it "Current Generation Tactical Simulation: Part 3(This time it's Personal)" Even if you hated MW2 you'll be looking to see what these guys do.

I hope West and Zampella get the money they deserve for making the game(s) for Activision, but to whether they get the 'Call of Duty' brand name, i personally don't think its that big of a deal, theres been enough of them, and every game has to come to an end. Activision clearly don't understand this, but W & Z do, so i think we can expect a totally new IP, not locked in to churning out MW2 part 2/3/4. Which will be awesome.

we will see a second map pack. as many ppl bought the first one... yea, we will. activison may hire new hands. they may not be as experienced. may not be as experienced in building that type of world. etc etc. but one way or the other they will do what it takes to put another map pack out. even if it means they just keep retexturing COD4 maps and releasing them at 400 mp a map, they will do it... ya know why... b/c activision wants to ride that modern warfare 2 money train as far as it will take them.

Even if West and Zampella were in talks with EA while they were with Activision can you blame them? Like Adam said end of the day its just buisness and lets face it everyone plays dirty when it comes down to buisness, these two guys were just trying to salvage whatever they could of the child they created. I just hope they werent stupid enough to leave a paper trail on the Infinity Ward computers, what am i talking about these guys arent stupid.

Personally I think MW2 is boring I hope they never make one again all their is is modding jerks and people who cheat to get their 10th or what ever and they are scamming people that have no idea whats going on and steal their hard earned cash. So I`m stay with halo,street fighter and fallout 3.

Im glad to see that you are doing these web shows Adamn, reminds me alot of the g4 from about 10 years ago when I discovered you guys. I was wondering have you heard of a book that came a few years ago called the masters of doom? It was all about carmack and romero and what happened with them. Your lates video made me think of it.
