A big pre-release question about Quantic Dream's unique PS3 drama-game Heavy Rain has been answered. Before it came out, many in the gaming world were saying, "Sure, it looks amazing and innovative, but will it sell?" The answer: Yes. It will sell. According to a proud press release sent this morning, the game has sold a million units in its first five weeks of release.
"It has been hugely gratifying to see the positive response that Heavy Rain has received from gamers” says David Cage, the writer and director of Heavy Rain and CEO of Quantic Dream in the aforementioned press release. “It shows that it is possible to create games that break with convention, games that seek to tell complex stories, and games that can inspire unexpected emotions in players - and that such games can be commercial as well as critical successes. I hope that this success will continue to help pave the way for new, groundbreaking experiences."
Even if you didn't like Heavy Rain itself, you gotta give props to the team that made it and financed it. Putting that kind of budget behind a game that isn't a shooter, isn't a sequel and isn't based on a movie is amazing and encouraging.

I bought this game last week. I'm honestly upset at myself at the moment because I got Madison killed last night while playing. Now I want to play the whole game all over again just to see her live and how it would effect the story.

Wish I would have rented it instead of buying it.

Heavy Rain was an awesome game. It did something that most other developers wouldnt do by taking a chance. I still remember playing Indigo Prophecy years ago and being amazed by how in depth the game got and how attached I got to the characters. Heavy Rain did the same thing. The graphics looked great and the story was amazing. Hopefully other developers see how a risk like this can pay off and try to do new things themselves.

Heavy Rain was an awesome experience. I absolutely LOVED it. So glad to see it has done well commercially. Quantic Dream deserves it.
And Sony deserves props for having the balls to fund such an unusual game. I don't think Microsoft would have ever touched it.

Heavy Rain deserves every sale it obtained.

Gonna be honest, I never touched the game but watched the entire walkthrough on YouTube and it was just as satisfying because the guy chose almost all the choices I would have.

I had a feeling It would sell because people want a break from all the shooters. Heavy Rain is something different and the development team deserves props for taking a gamble like this.
