By now, you’ve probably seen the somewhat tainted “Ashes to Ashes” trailer for Epic Games’ Gears of War 3 that appeared last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (“tainted” since the big reveal was spoiled last week thanks to a promotions error on Xbox Live). Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski was on hand to pull back the curtain on the, as Bleszinski called it, “worst kept secret in the video game industry.”
The trailer wasn’t quite as affecting as the Gears of War “Mad World” trailer (still one of the best ever, by the way), but it definitely had plenty of discussion-worthy elements (giant tentacle Lambent beasts, female Gears, double-barrel shotguns, the fact that it's coming out April 2011, etc.). So have at it.

Regardless of anybody's thoughts on Gears of War 3 itself, the fact that it was premiered on a late night talk show is huge for the video game industry. This pushes video games one step closer to be treated as a full-fledged medium for entertainment and not some toy as fox news paints it.

Normally I try try to avoid promos and stuff like this, but my appetite for Gears is to much. This trailer gave me just enough to leave me wondering about everything that Gears 3 will be, and what will happen. It doesn't have quite the shock that Mad World had, but it showed enough changes from what I knew from the first two games to surprise me. I need more info on Gears 3, NOW. I can guarantee I'll watch that promo another two times today, at least.

I thought it was a pretty great trailer, particularly for a first squiz. Not as good as the Mad World trailer and Gears 2's theatrical trailer (which I prefer to the Mad World trailer, myself), but it wouldn't surprise me if we get a trailer of that quality closer to release.
It did enough to tease me in anticipation for an assumed E3 showing while doling out little hints of information if you pay attention - like the Double Barrel Shotgun and Anya Stroud in COG gear.
Glad to see Dude Huge came off really well on TV, say what you will about him, but I think he makes a good ambassador for gaming to wider audiences.

"Gears of War 2" is a great single player game. I loved it when it came out and I love it now. I thought the MP was a bit ruined by lag and glitches, but it's all good. I can't wait for this new installment of the franchise. I realize a year is a "LONG" time in video game terms, but hopefully the wait will be worth it! :)
