At Konami’s Gamer’s Night last week in San Francisco, I was struck by how many franchise reboots the publisher has in the pipeline. Between full on reinventions like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow to revisions like the downloadable titles Rocket Knight and Rush’n Attack: Ex-Patriot, Konami is clearly in a nostalgic kind of mood these days.
But they certainly aren’t the only ones, and that’s why I wanted to see what classic franchises you’d like see revisited with modern technology and modern gaming sensibilities in mind. Obviously, I’d take an original IP over a reboot any day, but considering the reboot craze isn’t going away any time soon, might as well make the most of it.
So how about it? Which games would you most like to see remade for today’s consoles? I’m still pulling for a badass Rampage game. Rampage: Total Destruction was just sad, and probably ensured that my wish never comes true. But come on. How amazing would it be to ravage a fully destructible, Liberty City-sized map using oversized beasts? I’ll tell you how amazing: quite.

I have a pretty good list....
Rygar... oh yeah, they ruined that.
Bionic Comm.... nevermind.
Can I get a BATTLETOADS anyone? This one is tricky since its an old nintendo game (or 4) made by RARE, owned by Microsoft.... I would DEFinately by the NES one again and maybe even the SNES....
Faxanadu, Solar Jetman,
My Kingdom for a FF7 reboot...... even just more add on games like Crisis Core....
Killer 7 needs a Wii Control re-release. This game is better than No More Heroes, sorry!
TOEJAM & Earl!? Never played 3 on xbox, probably sucked.
River City Ransom has potential too.... remember the awesome Dodgeball game with the same sprites?
Lastly.... The ORIGINAL Zelda on NES needs a reboot- Phantom Hourglass DS style I'm thinking more NEW SMB yields NEW legend of zelda..... the old zelda almost required you to make your own maps and the DS is perfect for that, proven by Phantom and Spirit tracks. But for the Love.... DON'T DUMB IT DOWN FOR CASUAL PLAYERS! and I'm out. erockfitz

Remake Bonanza brothers, two player thieving would be cool.

A remake here and there is nice, but I hope games don't follow Hollywood's example and do almost nothing but remakes and sequals.

Out of this World/Another World, and its sequel Heart of the Alien. The games cinematics still hold up, and it was like, from 1990.

Like virtually everyone else who has fond memories of playing FF7, I would love to see a remake, but I just don't see it happening. And honestly I would rather see Square pump out new quality games.
Beyond that I think it would be awesome to see a Star Fox reboot. I think if done right it could pull some gamers back to their dusty Wiis. Use the formula from Star Fox 64 and use the Wii Mote to aim the crosshairs of your arwing or tank or sub or whatever else you might be piloting. Throw in some good old split screen multiplayer and maybe online and Nintendo would have me as hooked as I was when they sent me that sweet video announcing the rumble pack.

I know it would probably never happen, but I would love to see a sequel to an old Konami NES game called Nighshade: Part 1- The Claws Of Sutekh. It was from the makers of Shadowrun for the SNES. It was way ahead of it's time, and it is hands-down my favorite NES game of all time. It's one of the best video games I've ever played. PERIOD. I haven't played it in ten years, and still think about that game from time to time. It haunts me that it never got a sequel. It's even got Part 1 in the title for crying out loud! If any game deserves a sequel during this craze, it's this game. Come on Konami, put Nightshade Part 2 on PSN, Live and WiiWare! But I know it'll probably never happen. :( But alas, Nightshade you will be missed. These three links will show you how amazing this game is.

I would definitely love a true Shinobi(2002) sequel because Nightshade did not do it for me.
I would also love a complete reboot of the Tenchu games. Perhaps made by Eidos/IO Interactive since their Hitman games have some of the best level design with the most perfectly executed "controlled chaos" I've ever seen in a game?
Yes, day one purchase.

I concur with the Rampage reboot. It's just that no one really finds giant anamorphic beast appealing anymore. One reboot that is definitely needed, Pilotwings. A game that can relax you just by exploring surroundings will entice more casual gamers. For the hardcore, throw in a volcano level to rescue people via jetpack.

Demon's Crest, loved the music and artwork in that game. Brand and zombie dragons ftw!

They kind of made a sandbox Rampage game, except it's called The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. =/
The Sega Dreamcast is a console near and dear to my heart - it's games were so good!! I would very much like to see a Space Channel 5, Powerstone and Jet Grind Radio remake. (Also a Skies of Arcadia sequel would be much appreciated.)

OMG..
..CHRONO TRIGGER, HANDS DOWN.
Easily my most loved & memorable RPG of ALL TIME.
[And no, the remake on the DS doesn't count. I want a whole CONSOLE (preferably multi-platform), UP-RES'ED remake.]
If Square-Enix would just remake the game for the console, but CHANGE THE ANIMATION STYLE/CHARACTER DESIGN from Akira Toriyama's Dragonball/Dragon Quest/Blue Dragon's style, to the animation style/character design & graphics/resolution along the lines of the LATEST Final Fantasy games (including overworld/map travel); and maybe update the combat system a little bit; then the game would be PERFECT & I'd be REALLY happy, and I'd buy the game almost immediately.
And yes, Jake; I'd love to see a Rampage remake too.

Friday the 13th!!..the music on that game still creeps me out!

Maniac Mansion. Also, would love to see a Contra remake in FPS-style similar to MW2 or BC2.
'Wonderboy in MonsterWorld' anyone?

champions of norrath...loved those games..
man that castlevania looks awesome..

You just became Adam's best friend. Please take some time and fashion a friendship bracelet from strands of old NES cartridge boxes, and take your place at the head of the line.

i would love to get a sequel/prequel/whatever of Jet Force Gemini. That is one of my all time favorite shooters, and todays technology would make it look o so pretty.

What about Ghosts and Goblins? Maybe make a new 2.5D sequel, and make it a tad bit less brutal. I loved that game and its sequels but hated dying so easily, and never got very far.
