PSP 2

The internet rumor mill is swirling with speculation that the still-announced PlayStation Portable 2 may be coming sooner as opposed to later. Officially, the PSP 2 doesn't exist, but there are tantalizing traces of the handheld-of-the-future on the internet, including the speculation that the device will double as a phone, and rumor that the device will be here sooner, rather than later.

Here's some of the evidence:

  • A couple of online resumes that mention the PSP 2.
  • Podcasters mentioning the PSP 2 in connection with E3.
  • Well-known analysts predicting the device will be shown at E3.
  • Common sense, which tells us that E3 is the time to announce big hardware initiative.

Like most internet-style-rumors, this is a pretty slim case for the PSP 2 coming soon, so take it with a grain of Mega-Salt(tm) -- those resume references to the device could have been references to the PSP Go, a fact that AtomFire Productions Director Dominic Mason confirmed. But still, an E3 launch wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility, and it might be just the thing Sony needs to get back into the handheld space. Besides, when has a lack of tangible evidence ever prevented anyone on the internet from speculation/bloviation? That's what comment sections are for, man. Please use ours.

I might buy one as long as the games are compatible with my old PSP.

If they make the PSP2 they should make the same button lay out the DS (DualShock 1, 2 and 3) have had since PS1. Also I believe moving the analog stick to the upper part of the device would be more comfortable and it would give u a firm grip on the system. You can check it out with the original PSP, turn it up side down with the screen facing you, just hold it like if you were playing it normally and imagine if the D-pad were the face buttons and vice-versa. Where the earphone and power jacks are at there would be the back buttons and the rest just use your imagination . It feels better to me, can't play it like that but it feels better. This would only work with the original design not the GO.

Well Sony Ericson make some strange phones. That's who the cell side would probably be produced from. My PSP already has Skype so they don't have to get involved in the very lucrative cell market. Plus I firmly believe they would have to wait for the Ericson licensing contract to run out.

Two analog sticks, flash supportable, cut in with google to use the android market :D (yeah right), but all in all they need to drop the PSP GO like a hot turd...

Great...I was planning on jumping into the PSP market with the upcoming Metal Gear Peace Walker bundle, but now I don't know if I should save my money or jump right in. Ugh....

Playing PS3 video-games such as Final Fantasy XIII or God of War III on the PSP2 would be really awesome! (via Internet) and using "TWO sticks"....

I have been holding out on buying a smart phone in the hopes of a PSP phone, with 3G remote access to my PS3. I wonder what carrier they would have it on? If in fact it is going to be a phone, then it would probably be more expensive then the "Go", but probably look the same with a touchscreen. The "Go" is already small enough to fit in your pocket. I can't wait.

why would people get mad if Sony released a new PSP every year? Apple does the same thing with their iPods, which by the way suck, and no one says anything. ..

I don't really like handheld games that much.

They should make a psp phone so I have a reason to buy it.
