Indie games have been making a huge splash recently, thanks in part to XBLA, PSN, and all-inclusive gaming conventions like PAX. Fresh off the plane from PAX East in Boston, Adam was so impressed by all the independent games he saw on the floor he decided to use them as the subject for this week's Soapbox. Do you regularly browse the Indie Games section on XBLA? Do you read about small indie projects on gaming blogs and track their development until they find a method of publishing? Let us know what, if anything, indie games mean to you.

Your lack of Mount And Blade and pretty much, anything that isn't console focused, really shows the love for indie.
Madd_the_Sane
One indie company that's really pushing themselves to get heard is Wolfire. They post blogs about their development, as well as insights into the gaming industry (Piracy and DRM, OpenGL vs. Direct3D, etc...). In fact, I'm kind of surprised the only news that the search of "Wolfire" shows is the Humble Indie Bundle.
Infinityman
Why hasn't G4 covered Mount and Blade? They just released the "expansion" Warband, which is honestly more of a reduex, but in a good way. The game itself is a real sandbox game, and I am wondering if that is why it isn't being covered. Does a game need a storyline to be spotlighted?
I tend to be a gamer who is significantly more drawn to story heavy games, but I find Mount & Blade to be a very rewarding game. I think this is mainly because of the gameplay. The fighting and the troop comand is what makes this game shine and the super small development team (I belive it is a man and his wife) understood that and persued that aspect of design. There are quests you can take, so you do build your own story. The thing is, they don't send you on a specific path, it is entirely open ended.

I would agree that smaller idie developers have a better shot on xbox because of the indie channel and cheap asking price for them. But PSN has some great bigger indie stuff. Thatgamecompany with flower and flow. You also have games like the last guy, fat princess, all the pixal junk games, shatter (which is great) that could use some support. I feel the problem is PSN needs a channel or area for these guys because people don't know and they get lost in the mix of other games.

one indie game that i enjoy that is free only is virus effect. It is a good platformer rpg shooter.

Why does Adam Sessler look like he has down syndrome?
JimMD102
I look out for good indie games, but I am very frugal so I need a lot of confidence in the game.
Gathoom
Starcraft 2 needs some love... as does Face of Mankind(which is an indie game).
SnakeYukin
It's really hard to keep up, talk about, review, and preview all of the indie games out there. While there are some places that cover indie games to some degree (http://www.indiegames.com/blo g/ and http://gamerzstation.hostzi.co m for example) they can't keep up with every game that is being made or is released. There's just not enough time and people to do it; even if it was just focused on the good ones.
Though, indeed, it is hard to get noticed amongst the large amount of games being released. Someone like me who is an indie developer himself can get a fanbase of a few people for a game (as there are friends and strangers on certain places you can post your game), but it's by no means a large amount. Getting on large distribution methods such as Steam, XBLA, or the PSN is never a given and each takes more than sending in a request for your game to get added and it will shortly be added to that distribution channel after the game is processed. You can only hope that your game looks good, can reach important and/or several people somehow, and those people will stick by you and tell their friends.
Cronnix
Does anyone knows what is that game/thing with flowers on the screen behind him, please?
X3rr0z
Well then if you're looking for an indie game then look no further at www.heroesofnewerth.com ...Heroes of Newerth by S2Games...games like that are bound to get more popular as they are closer to AAA titles but still remain faithful to the indie industry. The game is currently in Open beta so right now it's free so go ahead and try it for yourself....you won't be disappointed. One neat little thing I gotta mention, the game are hosted on S2's servers so you are getting zero lag, zero hacking; you know, that stuff that plagues a large majority of the PC games. Again, It's free so don't be afraid to see it for yourself
HereticBD
The problem with Indie games, much like anything with the word "indie", is that for every good innovative idea, there are thousands waiting to make clones of that idea. I swear that half of all the indie games out there, are Geometry Wars clones. Instead of shapes, just throw zombies in there, or whatnot. Indie games are either simplistic platformers, or dual analog shooters, with little else in between. You've got rare games like Braid, but calling that an indie game is a bit unfair, considering the money that was behind it.
You say support indie games, I say give me a reason to.
codename76
Indie game generally suck. However I do, think there a good niche for casual gamers. Personally, I have way to many AAA games to play to be bothered to play Indie games which seem generally simplistic to me.

Digital Roar
I am a member of a small, unfunded indie development team and I would do naked cartwheels on top of G4's studio if that is what it took to get the media attention that we and the many other grassroots indies out there deserve.
Loved this soapbox, and I really do hope we continue to see indie games creep into mainstream press.
and PS, I was serious about those cartwheels....
Angelus_II
I wanna believe that indie games are getting more exposure now then ever, but I do sense that they are still taking a back seat to the more popular. It's kinda like a new franchise being released in between two other major titles, only those who are willing to take the risk and try something new will buy it. Other then that, a good majority will stick to those games they know well.
Boann
Twitter might be a rung in the latter you're wanting to make. It is a great way to communicate when used properly.
Zachj321
Check out the site http://xboxgamerstutorials.web s.com/ They are pretty small now, but they look like they can grow pretty big with the help of G4 and its community
Klok
It''s very disappointing that Sessler forgot to mention Interstellar Marines and AAA indie initiative.
