Battlefield 1943 Players On Xbox 360 Likely To Unlock Coral Sea Map Tonight

The success of Battlefield 1943 on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network seemed to surprise Electronic Arts and DICE. That success has continued, with EA announcing this morning Battlefield 1943 has officially become the fastest release on XBLA to reach one million copies.

Battlefield 1943 was originally intended to be a simultaneous release across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but the PC version has still not been released. In the same sales release, EA did provide some brief clarity, saying "the game will soon also be available for PC."

There has also been no downloadable content released for the digital-only version of Battlefield, but when quizzed by G4 last summer, DICE indicated that was because it was never planned.

"At this time we have no solid plans for what we would do [with downloadable content] if we do anything at all," said Battlefield 1943 producer Gordon Van Dykeback back in August.

Besides the recently released Battlefield: Bad Company 2, DICE is also reportedly developing a proper PC-centric sequel in the Battlefield franchise, so far referred to as Battlefield 3.
