More Evidence For The Obvious: Dead Space 2 Coming Sometime Next Year

Dead Space: Extraction was an impressive game, possibly the best on-rails shooter released for the Wii. But Electronic Arts didn't release Dead Space on the Wii, so it always struck me as a bit odd they'd release a spin-off on a different console. It's not hard to imagine Dead Space: Extraction working on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 once Project Natal and PlayStation Move launch, however, so I asked the Dead Space team at PAX East if that could eventually happen.

"That keeps coming up," said a smiling executive producer Steve Papoutsis.

Clearly, I wasn't the first person to float the idea past him.

"It's definitely something that sounds pretty cool," he said. "That's all you can really say about that."

I was left with the impression that Dead Space: Extraction arriving elsewhere in the future was a distinct possibility. That'd be a nice little treat before Dead Space 2's released, wouldn't it?

I really like extraction, but if dead space 2 comes out, and there's no Wii version I can't get it. If they did bring in any other fans who are Wii only users, then they might be about to lose a nice chunk of capital.

I really can't see this selling that good even on the PR drivin crowd on the HD consoles. The audience is way too sinical of rail shooters first of all.Even though most or 90% of fps are guided experiences that just add tons of fluff and a crappy story.Good luck to EA to think elsewise.

I would buy it if it came out for live, and sense its an on rails shooter they should use Natal in some way, im not sure how though but rail shooters aren't as good with analog sticks.

I could see DS:E getting remade for/ported over to the PS3 with PSMove, but I can't imagine at the moment how the controls would translate from the Wii to Natal.
Motion Control & Voice Recognition can only cover so much of the controls.
But with that said, I'd like to see them try to tackle on translating the Wii controls over to Natal's control interface; it'd be a real interesting display to see how the controls would be like on Natal.

I heard this rumor a while ago. I absolutely loved Dead Space, and I played through Extraction but I really have a love/hate relationship with the Wii. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a HD version on PSN. And if it was a Move launch title, I might have to seriously consider picking up the motion controller.

As someone who pre-ordered DS:E for the Wii I don't mind the idea of a higher resolution, more polished, and SKIPPLE CUT-SCENE enabled version for the PSN & XBLA. Like iamosm said both this game and those like it, namely the M-rated MadWorld & House of the Dead: Overkill, would likely take in a nice profit if they were to see a HD release on the PS3 & 360 which to me is both a good thing and a bad thing.

The good part of that argument is that developers like Platinum Games & Visceral Games would not just take in the added cash flow for all their hard work but also bring attention to these sadly overlooked games. The downside to all of this is seeing just how much interest people have in these titles but simply chose to ignore them because they were on the Wii. The funny thing is an HD release of MadWorld might just end up costing more than the current $7 and change it's going for on Amazon right now.

Regardless more Dead Space = Good Thing. And I'm always one for more good things.

Games like this one and MadWorld could make a lot more money being sold on PSN or XBLA. I for one would buy MadWorld on either console.

I wish they'd make a dumbed down original version for the Wii, sucks that the Wii is always missing third party titles but get rail shooter spin offs. (I have Dead Space for the PC, and I have a PS3. . just saying it kind of sucks that Wii is always missing out on titles.)

it would be great to see this on the new motion controls for the PS3 but on Natal i really dont see this working,at least not in a really werid hand motion to shoot and interact

well, the Wii version didn't sell to much, it'd probably do a lot better on the PS3 and Xbox 360, though I'd have to give it another playthrough because I think it could be rather difficult to pull off with analog sticks at some parts... then again maybe they'll use the PS3's new motion controls, though I don't think this will work with Natal

Maybe it could be a pre-order bonus for Dead Space 2, or special DLC within the game.

Considering how poorly it sold, it would make sense to try and gain a few more sales by re-releasing it on two more consoles (though I do not know how or if* it would work on Natal).
