Film and television legend Robert Culp died Wednesday after falling and hitting his head outside his home in Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Now, if you don’t know Culp by name, then you probably recognize his face, and if you don’t recognize his face (how could you not? He only appeared in like 1,000 movies and TV shows during his 50-plus-year career!), then you definitely know him by voice. Culp was responsible for the utterly brilliant portrayal of Dr. Wallace Breen in Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode One. “Welcome. Welcome to City 17.” It still gives me chills.
Culp’s performance as Black Mesa Research Facility administrator turned Combine puppet is one of the best of all time, and even though (SPOILER!!!) Gordon Freeman killed him at the end of HL2, I was pulling for him to pop up again in some form in Episode Three, whenever it’s finally released. I guess this pretty much kills that hope, unless Valve is sitting on extra Culp recordings, in which case Breen could show up after all. Fingers crossed.

Wow. That is horrible news. His performance in Half Life 2 is one of my favorites of all time. My thoughts go out to his family.
