Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

We're headed into the studio this afternoon to record the latest episode of Feedback, but before that happens, we need a little help from you guys. The surprise announcement of the Nintendo 3Ds still has us spinning -- expect plenty of discussion on that front -- but we're looking for some insightful reader questions to spur some debate towards the end. What've you got?

Like the playstation move, I cannot think this is a good idea or a bad idea because I haven't gotten enough information. But unlike the move, the 3DS makes me ask "With this kind of technology probably being new to many developers, do you think that there will be a major delay of good games before people get a formula down like the wii when it was new?"

Do you think that people should learn more about what their games are about, what I mean is should people learn about Ann Rand before playing Bioshock?

Does anyone see this as a reason not to get this new "DS" or is everyone just kind of worked up over the whole 3D "fad" in general? From my point of view this could be pretty well recieved or forgotten... but in the long run its still a bigger, better, "DS".

Having in mind that a few weeks ago Nintendo announced the DSi XL, do you think the announcement of the 3DS was too so soon?

Nintendo provided the last big gaming gimmick with the motion controller. This gimmick has had great commercial success with casual gamers, and others that gaming typically didnt appeal to, but has had little to no success with more hardcore gamers. With it looking like 3D gaming will be the next major gimmick, do you think this gimmick too will see all of its success from the casual gaming audience, or do you think game developers will be able to utilize 3D gaming in a way to appeal to hardcore gamers?

I have had my Xbox 360 for almost three years now and I am beginning to have memory shortage issues with my 20 gigabite hard drive. I refuse to buy Microsoft's overpriced propriatary memory devices to add more memory storage to my Xbox 360.

Now, I am very excited to hear that Microsoft will allow external storage devices to store my game saves, XBLA games, and DLC content. My only concern is the 15 gigabite maximumn partition on any external storage device that is larger than 15 gigabites.

Do you feel this has to do with something on the hardware on the XBox 360; the lawsuit that Datel has brought to Microsoft about third party external memory storage; or is Microsoft gearing up to release a propriatary memory device that may be overpriced like the rest of their products?

In the past, there has been a lack of enthusiasm for developing 3d games expressed by reviewers and readers alike. With Nintendo's promise of a 3d experience without glasses, and Nintendo's tradition of providing reasonably priced content to their consumers; do you think that Nintendo will be knocking down enough of the disadvantages of 3d gaming to be able to establish a foundation that will create a market and base technology for the game consoles and game developers to work off of, or do you think that 3d gaming experience Nintendo will provide wont add enough to the play experience to become a success?

do you see all these new add ons like 3D, motion control and Vitality sensors a step towards the future of gaming or does it make video games look even more like a toy or childish endeavor?

After watching the 3DS video that was released I found myself initially very excited; that excitement was soon curbed however by a growing sense of frustration. What I find frustrating is that as soon I have settled in to their newest handheld, they pipe up and state that they have the NEW and BETTER DS coming in six months to a year.

Why doesn't Nintendo hold on to these ideas and actually package them all at once instead of these minor iterations in yearly installments (such as skipping DSi and just making the DSi XL to begin with)? The 3DS is an extraordinary handheld, there's no question about that, I just would find myself more tempted to buy it if they hadn't announced it when the XL isn't even out in North America yet.

There's been lots of complaining regarding the number of snipers in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Do you think EA should limit how many players can play that class (and do the same to the other classes to make it fair), or should EA just do nothing?

I need help with my G4tv account and I cannot ask through conventional means since I am unable to access forums. I'm guessing this is the only means since I cannot find a helpdesk-type e-mail on this site. For some reason, I cannot access the community tab/forums when I'm signed in. If I sign out, I can go there. So I can't post on forums. In my profile I cannot add a photo or update bio/description or update interests. This has been going on for well over a month and I've encountered the same problem on multiple computers (work and home). Is there an e-mail address I can send an avatar photo to at the very least? Is this a known issue? Please forward this to someone that can help. Thanks!

Eastern Europe has a very active video game development landscape, as only recently showcased by Metro 2033. But due to generally bad quality and poor production values most of these games have been ignored by the West (with notable exceptions like STALKER). Will new titled like Metro 2033 finally get our attention? Or will the US never accept playing Russian-made video games?

I can understand a attachment of some-sort being made available to the consumer, but why another platform? What's next the PS3D?
