Have you been craving a massively multiplayer online version of Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed something fierce? Well, EA and Black Box certainly hopes so, because the publisher has just announced that the closed beta for Need for Speed World is now underway.
"We have expanded Need for Speed’s classic adrenaline fueled racing with an all-new power up system and deep RPG style progression to create a truly massive, socially-connected white-knuckle Need for Speed experience,” Need for Speed World senior producer John Doyle said in a statement to the press.
If trading paint and high-speed pursuits across 150 miles of open road is your idea of a good time, then you should probably head over to the game’s official site and put your name in to participate in the beta. Need for Speed World hits the PC this summer.

APB on wheels? I want some zones to be like all out tuner racing in the mountains (Carbon) and others to be cop chases down the pier next to the sunset (Most Wanted) or even elite races at the world's airports (Underground 2). hehe

So I just signed up for the beta is this going to be pc exclusive? I no longer game on my pc but on my xbox and ps3 only so I hope they go to consoles.

wow,they maged to ruin this game within seconds by announcing the massive online thing,what I'm craving is a 2 player,at home game that I can play with my wife,you know right next to me, remember when 2 players used to include the person sitting next to you,yea,so it looked fantastis from the picture,and I had instant hope,but that was crushed immediately

Is there any real info on this game? Can we cruise to different hang outs and choose to challenge racers? Can we start a race anywhere we want and choose length like qtr. mile to 150 miles whatever? Also, and most important, can we really customize and build our cars, bore engine block, stroke the crank, choose from dome pistons or dish piston, choose out cam specs and all that? That in my mind is a real racing mmo.
