Sony's President and CEO Jack Tretton is exceedingly optimistic about the success of their new motion control initiative, PlayStation Move.

When our very own Adam Sessler sat down with him at GDC, Tretton had a lot of good things to say about Move and assured all the Sony fans that the hardcore audience would not get left behind:

"They key is choice for the consumer. We don't want to force motion gaming down their throat. We know not every consumer is going to be interested in the social casual experience, so for the shooter fan who says, 'Love what you did with motion gaming, but I like my DualShock 3 experience,' that's going to be there for them. The great thing about this motion gaming is it's an add-on, an enhancement, an extension for what already exists."

Whew. You get to keep your shooters and your little brother can shoot arrows at smiling pancakes or whack pandas with wet fish or whatever else the PlayStation Move will let you do. The possibilities are endless!

Watch the video to see what else Tretton had to say about the PlayStation Move.

Here's hoping the following games have a better chance on the PS3 with PSMove
(on the off chance they get ported over or remade/remastered):

    + No More Heroes [1 & 2]
    + Dead Space: Extraction
    + The Conduit (& it's coming sequel - "Conduit 2")
    + House of the Dead [Overkill, 2, & 3]

& Other games I may have missed, with near the same amount of potential as the above listed.

I dont see how Sony could fail with this. personally i was never a fan of the whole motion control thing with the Wii or either with PS move. I have a ps3 and probrobly wont ever get this but i know a lot of people who like the Wii but always complain about the persicion and the graphics so why not just buy a ps3 and move which would run u about $400 but it would be a big upgrade from the Wii.

When I heard MS and Sony were moving into the motion controller space I began having crazy ideas for a controller that would penetrate the market at a quick rate.

The idea consisted of slightly reconfiguring the current Dualshock 3 controller to split at the middle to allow a "motion" controller experience then when wanting to go back into a regular format, connect the two sides to form the whole controller again, Ship that with every new console and you have a steep penetration point.

Don't lie to me Jack, we all saw the GDC conference. This thing is going to be for the Casual Gamer and ONLY the casual gamer. All we got was Socom with tacked on motion controls, which they even admitted on stage. The casuals got all the games that were made SPECIFICALLY for the Move controller.

Don't lie to me and tell me that this controller is for the Hardcore as well. You are going to make the same exact mistake Nintendo has made, and loose almost all of your Hardcore followers if you do not give them just as much attention as the other groups you are going after with the Move Controller.

The difference between you and Nintendo is that Nintendo was successful in capturing a new audience even though they lost the Hardcore. I do not think you are going to be successful in capturing a new audience here, and it would be devastating for Sony if you lost the Hardcore as well.

I have faith in Sony, but it is wearing very thin.

why haven't heard anything from microsoft and natal. i know why i haven't heard from nintendo, they have nothing good to talk about besides bad mouthing sony. hey nintendo at least sony know how to make video games. lets see if i want to play zelda mario and metriod which is the only games worth playing i would by a nintendo 64. i love the ps move under $100 you can't beat that. i bet you any kind of money natal will be about $200. wow that a lot of money for something you aint sure about. we know move will work because they should ACTUAL GAMES not videos of a lady talking to a screen and Peter molyneaux. that guys word at worth crap looking back at all the broken promises on fable 1 and 2. reserve ps move for me. i most def. will be getting one. will we be able to play fallout new vegas with the move controller this fall? i mean it would make since.

I think a lot of you fail to realize that unlike nintendo, Move wont be mandatory. They are not forcing you to use it. I think its leaps over what wii offers and sony will not allow shovel ware games. Just like they dont allow non professional to make psn games. I expect good things from this and cant wait to get one even if it only turns out to be a gimmick. All we get is quality from this company and every new thing they think up make me even more happy that i chose PS3 as my entertainment device. It only does everything and sony proves it time and again with great innovative product and content.

listening/watching jack reminds me of watching a newshour interview of some bloated republican congressman, trying to discuss his newest subsidy to farming or whatnot.

this guy talks like a statesman, and seems to lie like a statesman. every 3rd sentence out of his mouth is a blatant and complete extrapolation of a tiny nugget of truth into a giant steaming wet horseapple talkingpoint.

well, not like microsoft doesn't have it's fair share of windbags either! just wish they'd get some guys to do interviews who would talk straight. i wish jack said "no it really isn't for hardcore yet, but we want to sell our units to hardcore gamers still, so we wont be forgetting them come development time." instead of saying "it's so great, every single super-awesome development company is working on this to make 20 games, some of which might be hardcore, none tho which will be good."

I like how Jack Tretton explained motion gaming, that it's all about choice and that the more hardcore audience won't feel left out. Many people think that motion gaming and 3D TVs are taking over but in reality those things are only being used as alternatives not replacements. Anyway, with all the news surrounding PlayStation Move it's going to make for a good E3 this summer.

Wow, it only took 4 years, falling to the last place in console sells for Sony to understand that : What ? There's other gamers than hardcore gamers ? There's people that don't care about FPS ? I hope they finally wake up and stop mass-producing M-rated games. Been with Sony since the PS1 and boy, am I disapointed with the games catalog of PS3. You know what Sony ? Some of your long-time fans from the PS1 now have kids and even though I do enjoy playing M-rated games when it's appropriate (like Silent Hill and Resident Evil), I would like you guys to still have the same content variety that you used to have on your previous consoles. Guess why the PS2 still sells a lot ? Variety. PS2 can satisfy both hardcore gamers and casual gamers something the PS3 can't quite brag about.

I'm really looking forward the Playstation Move and find soooo funny that many people seem to resist change. You know, technology is supposed to make things easier, if a motion controller can make you do the same stuff as a 12-button controller with two analog sticks, that's great. The only evolution in the controller over the years was simply slapping more buttons on it. Turning off generations of gamers like my parents who enjoy videogames a lot, but still like to use 2-buttons (oh, and if you consider that my dad isn't an hardcore gamer, I beg to differ, I've seen the guy finish Arkanoid in the arcades with a single quarter, repeatedly).

P.S.: I really find funny these days that there now seems to be a gap between "hardcore" and "casual" gamers. As if one category wasn't "worthy" of gaming compared to the other ? Videogames are above all : GAMES. It's about having FUN. I can enjoy playing Super Mario Wii with my parents, my wife and kids all together which is something that you can't do much on the PS3 other than with LBP or Rock Band. Hope the Playstation Move will help getting more "casual" games on PS3.

I will admit, Playstation Move is a really advance Wiimote. But it is not a complete ripoff. I strongly believe that Move will do better and we will see very cool game for it.
And yes, Jack makes me proud too :)

Sony doesn't care what the hardcore gamer thinks of this. They care about casual gaming dollars only. As long as they (and Microsoft) believe that casual games can still make bank, they will fall over themselves like retarded monkeys to get a slice.

Personally, I think that both this and Natal are WAY too little, WAY too late. Natal will underwhelm the hardcore just as much as Move has.
