"Play bigger!" demands Nintendo.
That's apparently the official tagline behind Nintendo's marketing push for the DSi XL, revealed at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco alongside a series of WarioWare: DIY ads.
Nintendo is really pushing the make-your-own-game WarioWare: DIY around GDC. The company is known for doing marketing at GDC, however. Last year, they gave out free copies of the sadly underrated Rhythm Heaven to everyone who attended Satoru Iwata's keynote.
The DSi XL launches in North America on March 28 for $189.99.

Seriously people? Nintendo has been doing this since the Original (bulky) Gameboy, Super Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, and Micro Gameboy Advance (not to mention the recent DS additions). In over a decade of Nintendo shoveling tweaked remakes of their recent system down our throats, you should have gotten used to the fact that 1-2 year after a handheld's release, they'd re-released the same console with minor changes. And you know what? Most of you will enjoy it! That's why people continue to buy them and Nintendo rules the portable market. Sony, Microsoft, and Apple wish they could pull the stuff Nintendo can, and always will, get away with!

haha looks like nintendo consoles are the new guitar hero, rushed and crappy. soon we might even see the first of shuvell systems

come on nintendo, looks like the mad selling power of the DS and Wii have gotten to you. Hint the reason that you aren't getting as amazing sales is because everyone owns 2. Way to exploit your fans by releasing a new DS months after releasing the DSi months after releasing the lite

my fat DS I bought on its US release date still works just fine

We want the nex-gen handheld Nintendo, quit wasting time!

Wow, Nintendo. Will there ever be a point in the life span of the DS where you DON'T make a new version? For those who are thinking about buying the DSi XL, just wait a few more months and Nintendo will announce they are making a "successor" to the XL. Nintendo, you're ridiculous.

I wouldn't mind buying an XL if the colors weren't bronze and burgundy...
Besides, my current DS is old, has a few dead pixels now, and the right trigger button works just some times.

@masterfulconfection
someone who doesn't want a ds now, or does, but doesn't isn't going to be swayed by it getting any bigger.
someone who already has one is far more likely to buy a new one.
masterfulconfection
they're not telling everyone who already owns any of the current DS versions to go out and buy the XL (although they wouldn't object). i look at it like the new PS3 slims: pretty much the same thing, but you can buy either the old or the new and still have fun

I think I'll get the new DSi XL. I have had the original grey one since they launched back in the day, it's about time for me to upgrade.
Grave_Chapel
I will not make the same mistake again and purchase every different DS style like I did with the Advance. I was able to wait for the DSi and my screen is fine. Stop trying to take my money.

No Thank You.

@ graymiller
Sony- king of upgrades that nobody wants.
Microsoft- speaks for itself.

Nintendo - king of slightly useful upgrades! Why are they so scared of an actual generation leap?

And the President of Nintendo mocked apple for releasing a giant Ipod touch? hm....
