Harmonix has confirmed that Rock Band 3 will be released by this holiday season.
"Viacom CEO and president Philippe Dauman has confirmed that Harmonix is working on Rock Band 3, for release holiday 2010!” Harmonix communications manager John Drake just announced.
No other details have been revealed at this time, but something called GDC 2010 is going on right now, so I’m sure we’ll be hearing more soon. Stay tuned.

I am a big time RB fan and I have almost all the RB games except the Beatles. My reason for that is because I can not export it to RB2. If I had any request it would be to be able to use all previous RB 1 & 2 DLC along with all the exports with RB3. I am excited for a new installment but I have a large investment into RB2 and it is still growing with the awesome DLC they keep releasing. I do not want to have to buy content for two separate RB games. So here is to hoping RB3 is basically just an expansion of sorts so I can use all my previous content from RB1 & 2,AC/DC,Lego RB,Green Day and all other previous DLC. If RB3 goes the separate route I may not support it until price drops...I can not place much judgment until images and info are released. Fingers are crossed.

I'm glad to here this. I hope Harmonix adds the ability to have twin, or even triple guitars like Maiden, playable at the same time. Hurry up and release more details!

I'm guessing they will add harmony vocals like from The Beatles : RB, some kind of party mode that GH5 had, and the ability of making RBN tracks straight from RB3. I'm sure there's going to be more surprises, but I'm just glad that Harmonix is releasing a new version every 2 years. By the end of this console's life cycle, we'll likely only be at RB4.

Great! I have been wanting a 3rd. Good thing about Rock Band is just because it is ANOTHER music game doesn't mean it will suck. This is going to be good because harmonix is the best in the music genre and they will definitely have something new to bring to the table? Just a thought, downloadable musicians? I would love to play as my favorite musicians without having to buy a whole game.

Besides harmonies, how about adding a keyboard as a new instrument. The Doors and Queen music will make more sense. I just hope it has a great track list, and I can use all the DLC I have and import my RB and RB2 songs.

The problem is that if GH continues to oversaturate the market with these music games eventually people will grow tired of the genre and RB will suffer too.

Great. My RB2 drums have taken a beating. Being able to retire them for a shiny new set can't come soon enough.

and in a new and not-totally-surprising announcement, Activision fires back by announcing Guitar Hero World Tour 2, Guitar Hero 6, DJ Hero 2 and Band Hero 2 as well as a new band-centered release based on Blink 182 to counter Rock Band: Green Day

Rock Band should pull a Valve: make each Rock Band completely different and supports previous installments. It should NOT pull a Guitar Hero and do the same crap every 2 months.

I say they should move forward on RB3 and scale back (or just get rid of) Green Day Rock Band.

I seem to remember an interview not too long ago where a high up person at Harmonix said they were a few years off from another Rock Band due to them wanting to get a more realistic feel. So much for that.
