While we wait for the first details on Valve's much-anticipated Portal 2 to drop via magazine covers, online retailer GameStop has already spoiled a major new feature: two-player co-op. The official description for Portal 2 reveals the sequel will have the much-desired feature.
"Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game’s two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively."
I was already excited for Portal 2. Now I'm this much more excited for Portal 2.
Thanks to user CPZ for the tip!

Thats pretty freakin' awesome (Portal 2 having Co-Op), though I'll have to agree with X02 to a certain extent.
I'd have preferred finding out about this from Valve themselves first, or GameInformer even; as long as the announcement was presented well/properly - not with a bare-skeleton spoiler such as Gamestop's description for the game.
Hey Patrick; Should've wrapped this article with "Spoiler!" warnings.
[I realize I'm about a week late, but I've only just now had the time to leave comments on here, as I've been busy as of late.]
(I also realize that Gamestop spoiled it 1st, but I go to G4 for gaming news, not Gamestop. Just saying.)

Oops, I meant to say PS3...

@ all the PS# haters, I just read a link that said the comparisons are in and FF XIII is waaaay better on PS3 than 360 so if Square Enix can do it why not valve. A lot of games are that are way more graphically stunning than a game made on a 6 or 7 year old engine can do it. If you really think that Valve won't do it because of cost or whatever you truely are deluded...

PLEASE, Valve DO NOT make Half-Life Two Episode Three co-op...You will ruin yet another great franchise...not that Portal co-op doesn't sound awesome, I really like the idea of people actually having to think online...

Wow, looks cool. Hope they get it right!

Remembering a game for a long time does not pay the mortgage or put food on the table.
There is a cost associated with making/porting a game to a different console, especially a console completely different from anything else out there.
As we've seen from surveys of third party developers and info coming out of Sony, it's possible the cell processor will not be used again and end up a footnote in the history books.
If you were paying the bills and salaries, you might decide to skip the third place console.

I'm just guessing here, but I think the co-op will have each player sporting a single portal gun. I'm pretty sure that one player would have to open a portal for the other player in order to progress and vice versa. Most likely, people that play together would have a much more humors time trying to think of creative ways to drop each other in the acid.
"Please note that we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an 'unsatisfactory' mark on your official testing record, followed by death. Good luck!"

i loved the first one. i cant wait to see what the next one has to offer. My only real concern is the CO-OP. They say it will be seperate but i can see that becoming really frustrating, but i believe in valve that they can pull it off. "in valve we trust"

Wow.
When this comes out and I play Co-op with a friend I'm totally going to be the companion cube. I'm great at just sitting in one spot, on giant buttons, all cube-like.
Excited.

Maybe this will help explain it

There is also the possibility that PS4 will not have a cell processor.

Why should I buy a PC just for Portal, how about Valve use their heads and learn how to develop for the PS3, seriously how can such a "great developer" not be smart enough to developer for one of the premier consoles on the market. Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Guerrilla, Zipper, etc seem to do it just fine.
I got a 360 but do not pay for live so that would ruin the game not being able to have co-op.

IM STOKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! 2 player portal FTW
