Final Fantasy XIII doesn't come out until Tuesday, March 9th, but X-Play's Rob Manuel deeply immersed himself in the epic role-playing fantasy for many, many to provide you with a review of the massively single-player game. A choice quote:
"Final Fantasy XIII isn’t a weekend rental, it’s a commitment. Sure, that sounds obvious to any fan of the blockbuster role-playing series, but Square Enix’s dramatic changes to its formula will prove jarring to many longtime fans. Not everyone will enjoy being thrust into a world of chaotic action and feverish flipping of menus. Don’t get me wrong, the new battle system is more of an evolution of previous systems rather than a cheap gimmick. But even as a longtime fan of the series, I wonder how others will come to terms with so many drastic changes. I, for one, grew to truly enjoy it."

Is there any noticeable difference between the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions? I own both systems but am probably going to pick it up on the PS3 because that was the console it was originally designed for.

Big FF fan here, But all these reviews make me Wonder if it will be the Second Coming of FF8. Not that it was a Horrible game, but it Was Obviously the black sheep of the series(unless you count side games...Mystic Quest...). Square can't ALWAYS make a great game, Every FF has changed from its predecessors as they try out new ideas and mechanics, sometimes those Mechanics don't work out so well.

I'm super excited over final fantasy XIII cant wait for its release. Iv'e loved every installment since 8 and think this could be the best one yet. But only time will tell how great it is. Bring on march 9th

To all fanboys...SHUDDAP!!! I love FF been a fan since It first hit america on the old gameboy (the one where you had to run to one side of the room to press the A and the other side to press B), anyway Final Fantasy was basically my first TRUE rpg game...and it was the birth of my want to create video games...with that said...Fanboys mad about the review SUCK IT...
Game looks amazing...but I'm honestly scared about the changes. A linear FF seems frightening...however I'm gonna get it cause every review so far hypes it up as something not to be missed. About the 4/5...come on...just because it took so long for it to come out doesn't rate it a 5/5...G4 isn't bias...they just are honest. Only RPG I've EVER played that deserved a 5/5 was ME2...and my nerd hate says Prototype...but thats another troll :D

I don't know why people are complaining about a 4/5. Honestly I think that makes the game better as it lets people know that there are things wrong with a game (even though subtle), no game is perfect and as I said in my response to The Cutting Edge's post I think g4 gives out too many 5/5. A 4/5 is a great score and its rightly deserved since Final Fantasy 13 is going to be a great game, but unless it was the perfect rpg I personally don't think it deserves a 5/5 same with any other genre.

So anyone else tired of fanboys expecting a 5 out of 5 because its been hyped for last 5 years. Killzone 2 wasn't as good as hoped, neither will this be apparently, and neither was BioShock 2. Seriously they are reviewing games! Not judging how much the fanboys want them. IF anything I think this site hands out 5 outta 5's too often. Im tired of people thinking the opposite

4/5 Man G4 you better setup another server, get some more bandwidth and prepare for the fanboy stampede. You would think that after killzone you would have learned not to give the mega titles anything but a 5/5. Well the least you can do is get the reviewer a bodyguard. I hear Johny Extreme is looking for some work......

I don't think any game should get a 5/5.. There is always something wrong with it and room for improvement. I am gonna get this game for the ps3.. and g4 did a great job on the review.. I don't any thing about this game and iv only play FF7 so any thing from that game is a step up for me.. I have an all 3 consoles.. iv been needing a good single player RPG.. Mass Effect 2.. i did everything in that game and only 35 hours to beat it.. i needs me a long game lol.. GREAT READ GREAT REVIEW CANT WAIT TO SHUV THIS BISH INTO MY PS TRES!!!

Are you serious?!?! A 4/5??? FFXIII should get a 5/5 just for having us wait for 3 1/2 to 4 years to be released! I honestly think that you guys discriminate between FPS(or any other type of shooter) and RPG! You gave Star Ocean International a 4/5 and Star Ocean had bad voice acting and a crappy battle system! So you are telling me that SO and FFXIII are on the same level? What grading system do you guys use? You complain about if your lead character die in FFXII then thats the end of the battle. And? Whats wrong with that? If the battle system was the same way like FFVII or that there could have been more inns and towns in FFXIII then it would have been a 5/5?!? Get the hell out of here! You need to Halo's nut sack out your face and review that game again!

I'll preface this by saying, I'm not a fanboy. I'm fortunate enough to own all 3 systems and enjoy each one.
That being said, is there any reason the review for this is on a 360 branded page instead of a PS3 branded one? PS3 was the lead platform. This seems to be a trend for multiplatform game reviews on G4.
