Shaun White's Skateboarding

This morning, Ubisoft announced the existence of Shaun White Skateboarding. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, Shaun White Skateboarding will arrive during the holiday season of 2010.

Ginger-headed Olympian Shaun White is no stranger to gaming. His Shaun White Snowboarding games have proven very successful. White is also uniquely qualified to lend his name/expertise to both a snowboard game and a skateboarding title--he's the first athlete to win gold medals in both skateboarding and snowboarding at the Summer and Winter X Games.

"I can't describe how excited I am about the skateboard game,” said Shaun White in a statement. “We've been working on it for a while now and it's ready to melt minds."

Mind-melting aside, it seems to me that the field of skateboarding games is pretty full. You got Tony Hawk, and the Skate franchise-- is there really room for another game where you attach wheels to a plank and try to do flips?

As for what will set Shaun White's entry into the sub-genre apart from his peers, we're not sure yet. It's a little early for full details, but as soon as we get them, we'll pass them on. Until then, check out the White's official game site.

    Ahahahaha oh that is rich. Just change the name, nobody will know. I mean work on the snowboarding game first. I want a next generation snowboarding game that is good because I've played SSX3 6 times from start to finish now. ><</safety_wrapper> ;

    I would love for an HD remake of THPS 1-3, kind of like what Sony did with the GOW Collection.

    The first Shawn White game I brought it for 20 bucks a couple of months, played like 10 minutes and then returned the game. SSX3 look better and ran better than this game and since I'm a SKATE fan I think I will ignored this one.

    First off, I love that you used "ginger" to describe him. I bet his game will fall short. I owned his snowboarding game, and it was very poor, so I can't imagine a skateboarding game to be any different. The Skate franchise has up'd the ante in the skateboarding world, and imo can't be topped. Good luck ginger.

    I quit playing Skateboarding games, because of Skate's controls

    If he makes this game do what the old school Tony Hawk games used to do, he'll make millions of dollars. Skate is fantastic, but it's one critical flaw is part of what makes it so good. Skate is a better game for wasting time and turning out tricks in unique ways on a single very large level.

    Old school Tony Hawk games used to be fantastic because they went to different locations. I LOVED the crazy themes/locations of each level. The gameplay was basic but people played it for hours upon hours because of the built-in variety in levels.

    Newer Tony Hawk games have lost their way. They attempt to add a storyline similar to the first Tony Hawk Underground (eerily similar to Amped Snowboarding) and gameplay from Skate. It's like Activision saw the money Skate brought in and assumes they have to copy their methods in order to compete.

    Bring back old school Tony Hawk Pro Skater gameplay as the heart and soul of Shaun White's game engine and I will buy this game.

    P.S. I don't want the old controls, those were wonky by today's standards. I'm only talking about the extreme tricks, one-button ollie, and large eccentric stylistic themed levels.

    I don't see how this will be different than the other thousand Tony Hawk games.

    Awsome? Was his snowboarding game good?(outside of sales) I didn't think so. So the question is; Why go on to skating when youf snowboarding game still isn't great?
