For nostalgia's sake, I was playing Doom 2 last night on my 360. That game hearkens back to a day when games were hard. There's much less hand-holding in Doom and Doom 2 than in modern games. I like that.... until I get completely stuck. Then I hate it.
But I LOVE the BFG 9000. First, it has the funniest name of any video game gun, and secondly, Doom gives you just the right firepower at the right time in game. There's something downright satisfying about the blob of luminescent green death that shoots from the BFG. So this post is a tribute to the BFG 9000. What's your favorite game gun and why?

I'm going to say the Dual Shotties in Marathon series. There is something so satisfying about watching one handed reloading each of those puppies.

It not a gun but its more effective. The knife in MW2, it has great range since it can be thrown and you can also teleport through bullets with it(commando) and its always a one hit kill even if it doesn't hit the other player. LOL
My actaully vote goes for The Experimental Mirv in Fallout 3. There is nothing better than shooting several mini nukes at once.

I am personal fan of flame throwers. recently the one from ME2 is a blast. something about setting fire to a bunch of people all at once and watching them burn makes me happy. I might need to seek mental help.

Lots of ratchet and clank weapons make my cut. Black Hole Gun, the RYNO series, the transformer guns, and last but not least, the summoning guns. Jill's pistol gets special mention from MVC2.
Also, did you know Dan Hibiki is a registered weapon?

I have to go with the Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3. Although not too practical, it can probably waste as many mofos as the BFG.

Call me the odd-ball of this topic if you like but I really like rocket launchers. Weather it be Quake, Team Fortress, or Halo series, gotta love blowing your foes to little meat chuncks.

I too am from the school of the "shotty". A shot gun in any game is always the most satisfying to me personally. But the grenade launcher in Uncharted 2 is probably my current favorite. Although I do wish I was able to bank it off walls like in Golden Eye.

The Lincoln Repeater from Fallout 3. Not only is the lever-action rifle one of the best in the game, the ding sound it makes when you hit something is fantastic.

My first favourite would be the redeemer missle from the Unreal Tournament franchise; I like not having to aim guns and still kill a ton of people.
My runner-up would be the Sonic Erupter from Ratchet And Clank; it looks funny and is totally awesome.

Call me old fashioned, but I like a good old trusty shotgun. That could be from any game, but especially the Halo 1 shoty. If had to pick something more original, then I'd go with the Mini-nuke from Fallout 3.

Perfect Dark had some sweet dual purpose weapons. I really liked the Laptop Gun where you could either shoot it normal or throw and mount it on a wall to use as a motion activated sentry gun. The X-Ray gun (I think that's the name of the one that could go through walls) was pretty sweet to.
