Near the end of Apollo 13, Tom Hanks (as Cmdr. Jim Lovell) was describing the events that lead to the accidental explosion aboard the Odyssey service module on the ill-fated 1970 mission to the moon. "It was a minor defect that occurred two years before I was even named the flight's commander," he explained. I imagine that's what it must have been like for Sony on late Sunday afternoon when thousands of PlayStation 3's decided to take a 24-hour break in observance of a non-existent leap year, programmed into the system without anybody seeming to notice.
There was a slim chance that the situation could develop into a full-fledged fiasco, and it inadvertantly pointed out the potential dangers of surrendering control of your purchased games to a central authority.
Then late on Monady night, things just got crazy over at Infinity Ward. But you've already read a lot about that. This week's edition of Feedback tackles both of these topics with Adam, Patrick, Abbie, Sterling, and myself rounding out the table. And to cap it off, we threw in our reactions to yesterday's new Metroid: Other M trailer. Spoiler: I hate it. But I have yet to determine if the hatred is rational or irrational.
(We're not usually negative people, I swear.)

Yeah no Uncharted 2 trophies anymore. Picked the wrong weekend to pull it back off the shelf and finish the game..../shakes fist in the air.

I think the reason that the PS3 got so much press, is the same reason Ubi got heat for their new DRM scheme with AC2 on the PC. People get aggravated, I believe, because of the lost control of an item in your house. It would be the equivalent of your cable company not allowing you to watch your TV at all if your cable went out. This is the same idea with the PS3 blunder and certain forms of drm fear.
After the point of ownership comes into question, to the point that the producer gets to dictate how the consumer uses the product, and when, people start feeling that a line was crossed. And that line is the security of ownership and the rights that come with that ownership.
As for Activision/IW, I think the lack decision making that activision as a publisher will eventually come to haunt them one day. This is not the way you attract long term talent.

good show guys..nice to see abbie back
one thing i enjoy about the show is it really feels like a group of friends sitting around talking about games and me as a viewer being drawn into the conversation..and i being the laid back quiet type am content to listen and not interject into the conversation for fear of disturbing the flow..
anyways..ive really come to look forward to the show every week keep up the excellent work..

This is the first ep of Feedback I've ever watched or heard. I didn't expect it could hold my attention for a full 50 minutes (?!), but it totally did. Good show, guys!

Putting a voice to Samus Aran is almost as bad as if Valve gave a voice to Gordon Freeman. It just doesn't work.

Possibly the funniest feedback yet. On a more serious note I hope the two formerly employed at Infinity Word bounce back from this soon enough and with a vengeance. Great talent like that should be working.

This whole event involving the PS3 harks back to when Half-Life 2 came out. I remember buying the disc and finding out that it required steam. Friend of mine and I were talking about OnLive and if they were to partner with publishers for a subscription model where you pay for a publisher channel and can play all of their games or you buy individual game. The issue being connectivity or the lack of.

i lost my uncharted 2 add on trophies!!and u know what is the worst part? i lost them for good because when i go to multiplayer, and check my trophy percentage, it says i got 1/1 "Gold Digger", 1/1 "Survival".So when i go to synce my trophies, i dont have them. and being "1/1", theres no way i can get them now because of the fact that i already did them.

This Infinity Ward fiasco is very perplexing. I can't say I'm familiar with employee 'removal' policies such as this, but it seems extremely draconian. Not cool, Activision.

I don't get it. People are still freaking out over the PS3 glitch (which fixed itself without needing a system ship-back), but people still trust the 360 with its horrendous fail-rate and 1-3 week wait time for return. The RRoD is still by far a bigger, longer lasting problem that people just accept "because the games are so good" (if you like generic FPS and so-so graphics). And shortly after Ray Padilla started blogging on this site regarding his own 360 fiasco, he gets let go.
Makes sense to me.........
@hypra
And 360 owners still routinely get owned by dust and a little heat.

How come Morgan's never on the Feedback? Is it because she's not really a gamer?! Just kidding.

Oh hey, it's me. Is the talk back about Heavy Rain still planned? I was hoping to see what the G4 staff thought about the ending and some of the plot holes, but obviously this week was taken over by bigger news. Is there still a plan for this in the future?

totally agree with the download discussion. I hated when I download the plasmid thing for bioshock and realized I couldn't play it without a connection. Same thing happend with Last Remnant.
Really_another_Sequel?
I hoping for the best for Infinity Ward. I'm happy that Sony resovled the clock problem, but as you guys said it would be nice to have some reassurance even if they were freaking out under their desks.

Two hours earlier than last week's post/upload!?

It's quite unnerving to know how linked everything and everyone is. I think we're still in the very early stages of understanding what it means to have a world wide connection. Stuff can shut off, stuff that shouldn't have, or was overlooked by teams of experts just shuts down for a whole audience. This just goes to show how flawed we are, kids with magnifying glass, I guess, trying to get a back as easy and best we can.
