Feedback -- Fall of Duty And The Day The PlayStation Stood Still

Near the end of Apollo 13, Tom Hanks (as Cmdr. Jim Lovell) was describing the events that lead to the accidental explosion aboard the Odyssey service module on the ill-fated 1970 mission to the moon. "It was a minor defect that occurred two years before I was even named the flight's commander," he explained. I imagine that's what it must have been like for Sony on late Sunday afternoon when thousands of PlayStation 3's decided to take a 24-hour break in observance of a non-existent leap year, programmed into the system without anybody seeming to notice.

There was a slim chance that the situation could develop into a full-fledged fiasco, and it inadvertantly pointed out the potential dangers of surrendering control of your purchased games to a central authority.

Feedback -- The PS3 Clock Glitch and Trouble At Infinity Ward »

Then late on Monady night, things just got crazy over at Infinity Ward. But you've already read a lot about that. This week's edition of Feedback tackles both of these topics with Adam, Patrick, Abbie, Sterling, and myself rounding out the table. And to cap it off, we threw in our reactions to yesterday's new Metroid: Other M trailer. Spoiler: I hate it. But I have yet to determine if the hatred is rational or irrational.

(We're not usually negative people, I swear.)

I'd say that the media was fine in its coverage of the glitch. If anyone should be blamed for blowing it out of proportion, it's the people that were all over various forums screaming that they should get some sort of compensation. I saw people saying they deserved a Slim or free PSN credit as early as Sunday night. The problem was only a few hours old, wasn't fully understood, and people immediately jump to the question of, "How can I be compensated?" One of the problems with the speed of information is that people are losing patience. The other issue I had was with all the people yelling that, "Sony better (pick your expletive) fix this." As if they have to be told that.

even if your disturbed by the cut scene, are you going to not buy the new metroid game? no, you will still buy it, even if they add even more craptastic cut scenes. if you really dont want to hear the voices, just mute it and turn on sub's

See, there's a good reason I always prefer to get physical copies of games, instead of downloading them.
An idea for the issue with OnLive- provide the option to install on your hard drive. Except that doesn't really make sense for the business model, at least to me.
The long term issue with the ApocalyPS3 isn't what actually happened, really, it's the idea of what COULD happen.
I agree with Adam's assessment of the comparison with RRODs- the big deal is that it happened to everyone all at once, unlike RROD's
I would have thought Activision would tell the company so they know what is going to intimately affect them.
I've seen reviews for Nintendo games that are kind of bashing Nintendo for not doing voice acting for main characters, but I fully agree that Nintendo should stick with the way they've been doing their main franchises. (Mario, Zelda, Nintendo) I get the feeling The Other M will be considered non-canon by fans.
Lastly, does it seem to anyone else that these events happened just to give them something to talk about this week? J/k
    Exit #ApocalPS3 and #CoDtastrophe!

It sooo was Sonys fault overlooking this issue!
BUT... the fact is, it was a software issue,
Not a hardware one... way diffrent!

Any other time your not online you can play those games without trophy sync problems.

This to me was a very small glitch that just got googled a lot, and was fixed very quickly.

I hope this gets to the FEEDBACK team.

This is about HEAVY RAIN's dialogue problems.

I have never tried HEAVY RAIN yet but I was talking to my cousin who has finished the game. He actually had a better time playing HEAVY RAIN by putting it on French Audio and reading the english subtitles. He said it made it feel more like watching an foreign movie instead of a made for TV movie.

I was wondering if anyone of you guys tried that? what's your take on it?
