Tecmo today finally confirmed the existence of Tecmo Bowl Throwback, the upcoming remake of the SNES football title, Tecmo Super Bowl, set for release this spring.
The Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network game will include online multiplayer, customizable teams and rosters, and online leaderboards, as well as preseason, season and Pro Bowl modes. Fans of the SNES version will be pleased to know that you’ll be able to play Throwback in either the newfangled, next-gen-ish style or in the classic 2D presentation. In other words, prepare yourself for major childhood flashbacks.
Overall, it sounds like a winning formula for a tasty retro-remake treat. Don't you agree?

If it had the NFL teams on it, I would be sooo in. I loved using Boomer Esiason for my Jets & taking Kyle Clifton to have 72 sack seasons. Luckily< I still have my SNES & my games still work. So when I wanna play it's as easy as pluggin it in. But this format looks cool with the new 3D graphics, if only....

Bo Jackson was unstoppable. Jerry Rice was supper fast. I doubt it will be the same since it will be missing the stars of the NFL. Each team had a game breaker. Remember the original LT?

Judging by the pictures on IGN's website, there aren't any NFL teams. Just plain old helmets and uniforms. I think EA still has the NFL license wrapped up for awhile. Personally it doesn't matter to me as I think it will be a fun game regardless.

Nope, will not have an NFL license. EA's Madden franchise still holds it and Tecmo cannot use NFL teams. I still plan to get it.
