It might see like a formality at this point, but Sony has officially purchased LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule. The news broke at the PlayStation Blog earlier this morning.
"The decision was an easy one after meeting five young, talented people with a massive ambition to redefine video games as we know them," said Michael Denny, senior VP of Sony Worldwide Studios Europe in a statement, "followed by a fantastic exclusive relationship that culminated in the launch of one of the most innovative PlayStation games of recent years."
That game, of course, is LittleBigPlanet.
"The most important thing is that nothing will change from your [gamers] perspective," said Denny. "Media Molecule will simply continue to make great games. Welcoming Media Molecule into the PlayStation family will allow us to better support their future titles and ambitions."
Media Molecule has been steadily supplying downloadable content for LittleBigPlanet since it's launch, but the studio has been surprisingly under the radar. Seems we're due for something.

Solid move by Sony, the only reason i routinely get on my PS3 is LBP. This could spar up some needed funding, and create more material for the consumer.

I wonder what would birth from the deepest darkest corners of Media Molecule's mind in the form of a FPS.

Probably had to think this was coming. Honestly, I thought they already had Media Molecule because you still see Little Big PLanet in Sony's promotions for the PS3. Ah well, still a great move by Sony. Can't wait to see more from the promising developer that is: Media Molecule.

good to hear.

I gotta imagine Sony has consider getting Quantic Dream under their umbrella as well. Heavy Rain was a big risk to pour money into and it paid off. 500k units worldwide in one week is a immense success for a genre that most of us doubted would do well commercially. At this point Sony has the chance to own the company that just broke ground with an all new genre.
Besides Kevin Butler would love to take on the role of VP of Interactive Drama.

Should we buy a development studio who made the GOTY for 2008 or should we buy timed exclusive DLC? Hmmmmm.

Mm and Sony is a match made in heaven.

Brilliant move on Sony's part, but with what is happening to IW, acquisitions are not something I plan on celebrating.
