Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

So, how was your Monday?

We're only the second day into the work week, and we've already filled our show plan for tomorrow's episode of Feedback: yesterday's PlayStation 3 Leap Year Glitch that induced a mild panic, and of course, last night's bombshell that corporate shenanigans are occurring at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward (catch the original story on that here).

We're taping at 4:00 PM (Pacific Time) this afternoon, and we want to hear your questions and comments about both of these stories so we can incorporate them into the show. Pipe up in the comments below by 3:30 PM, and as always, try to have an avatar associated with your profile (it makes things easier for us).

With the growing emphasis on the concept of motion control as the future of gaming, how does the Feedback crew feel about the gaping lack of motion control content geared for the mentally and physically challenged? I would imagine that motion control has the capability to allow a staggering number of new players into the game space. Players who were previously alienated from gaming due to traditional limitations. I would certainly hope that these people are not all put out to dry when the bar of entry to the future of gaming becomes the ability to stand and deliver ridiculous feats of acrobatics.

What do you think about JAMES CAMERON; Firing at gamers for playing online? When he was praising us when avatar game was being released?

    Dear Feedback

With E3 only a few months away Who do u think is really goin to steal the show this year? My biggest Question is will MS or Sony really give the Wii a run for its money or are they both making a big mistake.

Do you think major companies will eventually take a risk at the "interactive drama" genre after seeing the success of Heavy Rain?

Do you think that this recent fiasco with the PS3 will convince gamers that the ownership of digital copies of games is not the way to go? When you purchase an item you expect to own it in all its entirety yet, as you mentioned in Sessler's Soapbox, the inadequancy of a simple server could render your paid content ineffectual. While it may be cheaper for game developers to deliver their games through an internet medium, is this really something that the gaming community is ready for?

the leap year glitch really didnt bother me its a console bugs are going to happen. just ask yourselves would you rather have a YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death) system or a system that doesnt play games for about a day? funny story is i just spent the time watching movies on my ps3 and disabled online.

First of all: Congrats to Patrick, he broke the story very well, and it is awesome to kind of see the "next generation" of G4 'talent' (If you wanna even call Adam 'talented').

Secondly, What do you think will be West's and Zampella's next move? They are very talented guys, and I personally would love to see them open up a new studio, grab as many of the IW employees as possible, partner with EA, and throw a "Screw you" to Activision. Of course, I'm a very petty person.

The whole deal with the Jason West fiasco seems to be very interesting about Infinity Ward. I was relieved however that they announced this would not affect the franchise from making more games. Also have they or haven't they confirmed the accomplice because I am extremely curious about who it is.

Activision and IW having trouble the night before the Bad Company 2 launch? Probably a coincidence but the timing is kind of hard to ignore. You guys have any Activision/EA conspiracy theories?

well its now wensday night, pushing on to thursday, ive got some beers in my mini fridge (its really the only thing that fits in a 1K) and ive technically been unemployed since monday (aka nothing but job hunting until i have to return to the US in april) and i was planning on buying another ps3 until i read this story + the story of this company is being prevent from supporting future visas so yea. i think it was a bull$ problem that they never looked at as to rush the product out. its probably the reason no one ever buys 1st generation sony products over here. as far as CoD is concerned, well i dont really like shooters so i have nothing to say about it (they give me motion sickness and i dont know why)

This will probably be addressed, but what in the knick knack patty wack give a dog a bone is going on with Infinity Ward? And do you see Activision taking a similar course of action with other previously established franchises and developers under their control?

I'd like to know what your opinions are on the new DRM's that gaming companies are throwing at us. Sony has those Online voucher codes, making purchasing a used game or lending out a game pointless, Ubisoft has it's new system coming out where you have to keep connected online to a server to run even a single player version of a game, and Nintendo is toying around with the same thing...

I understand that developers want to protect their products from theft, but they're just treating everyone like criminals and souring the gaming experience for all of us. What happens when I want to play Assassin's Creed II in 5 years, and find out they've stopped paying for servers? Am I supposed to believe that they'll spend the money on developing a work around patch?

Hello, sorry not sure if this has been said already seeing how i haven't read all 4 pages of comments.

Do think Sony should make a public apology and give some incentives like credit for PSN or something to make ammends for the whole screw up. Plus i read on the playstation twitter page that as of 2 hours ago some people are still having trouble connecting to the PSN.

Games have become big business. We wanted success and recognition as an art form; we got it but also the supporting structure and suits that goes with it.

We get shocked when large corporate culture butts against what we still, perhaps with a little bit of clinging navet, imagine to be an industry full of friends who want to cooperate and 'just make games'.

Truth be told, Infinity Ward survivors will be ruffled for a little while - but they realize there's countless talented people dying to take their positions like hungry vultures, and have seen that Activision has seen through the illusion of individual magic. That realization and need to maintain income will settle them hard and fast.

This is reminiscent of the NBC late night debacle activision will shuffle around developers until they end up destroying one of the most profitable game franchises of ail time.

How much of my data is actually on my console? I think this is a question that many console owners should be asking the console makers. If data resides on my system, then come hell or high water I will be able to play regardless of external issues. This calls to mind the issue of States Rights. Do I (and my console) have a right to play unfettered even ifin a diminished capacity without access to some online data server like a sovereign State? Or, do I need to trust the cloud (Federal Government) to do what is right, and maintain an infrastructure that is my best interest.

Is Call of Duty and IW going to be okay? I am not too sure how involved these people were with CoD. I mean if you say Cliffy B, everyone thinks epic games and gow, Gabe Newell valve, and Peter M. fable 2. So is CoD going to be okay? Exclusive content to collector's editions, should it become free later?

    Your thoughts...
Is the Infinity Ward scandal just a calculated distraction from Battlefield Bad Company 2's realease hype?

So, the CEO of a studio that made the billion dollar Modern Warfare franchise gets fired by the CEO of a publisher that despite having a billion dollar franchise and WOW on the books seems to still find a way to have money problems over what is being called "insubordination." In Kotick's DICE speech he stated that he is chiefly looking out for the shareholders, well if that is so, then the wrong CEO was let go.
