Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

As the world struggles to understand the long-term effects of the apocalyps3, the weary foot soldiers at G4 are putting on a brave face and moving forward with a new episode of Feedback. It's also the first week in a while that we don't have a truly massive game to talk about, so expect a little bit of this and a little bit of that when Feedback drops on Wednesday. But I need your help for the last segment.

I need questions! Please, readers, feed me. Feed me questions.

With the increasing amount of major titles coming out each month and the fact that consumers are becoming much more smarter, with money and with the easy access to information on the net, do you think that this is a good direction for games and the game industry? If we want the industry to survive do you think we need to see less games coming each month or more?

With taking risks on new IPs I believe if they were to lower their prices since its hard to know what to expect and would more likely be taken a risk on since it would be cheaper to buy. Then once if they prove themselves to be a good game if they decide to make the sequel can charge the normal fee of 59.99 for the game because it is now already established. just curious if that what u guys think about that route for getting more sells out of a game.

Looking down a list of games that are coming out the rest of this year, it seems like this will be a year dominated by sequels and trilogies, and even a few in double digits, (looking at you mega man and final fantasy). There are only a few games that seem to be new IPs rather than part of an existing franchise. I personally am really excited to see Alan Wake and Alpha protocol, but i was wondering which new IPs are you most excited about moving forward, and why?.

I'm sure someone may have already asked it, but what will be the long term effects of this ps3 fiasco?

I heard someone say that this was an internal clock error that can't big fixed by firmware. If that is the case, how will Sony rectify the situation so that it won't happen next time. I mean if the internal clock thought this was a leap year, won't it incorrectly calculate the date again 3 years from now when it actually is a leap year? Granted 3 years is a long time, but I don't think its unreasonable to think that the PS3 will still be within its life cycle.

    Hey Feedback crew!

I'm going to take a small step back and talk about DICE.

The session that I found incredibly captivating was Jesse Schell's "Design Outside The Box" presentation. Schell's view of the future is both stunning and frightening.

I would like to know your thoughts on his presentation. Do you think that Schell is correct in his interpretation of the future? if so, how long until this future takes effect?

    -Thanks
(hopefully me having a profile picture and spacing my lines have brought your attention, haha)

Usually when there is a massive issue that everyone is looking at I tend to look the other way and talk about something completely different to change the subject.
For example: This week Portal got a mysterious update involving hidden radios and secret codes.

My question to you is do you guys think cryptic advertising methods work? Are these puzzles supposed to show how much detail and intelligence is going into the making of the game? Or are they just rewards for hardcore fans of the game/series to see a minuscule amount of information that in the long run will be worthless?

Or are these puzzles just a waste of time?

with games like mass effect 2 and final fantasy XIII being on multiple disks on the 360, could we be seeing the return on multi disk games or do you think it begin to force the next generation of consoles?

i would love to know your thoughts on this

Final Fantasy XIII is right around the corner now and I can't help but feel bad that I'm excited for it. At one point I recall games 7-10 being more or less the pinnacle of what the medium could offer: a well crafted story, extremely customizable gameplay, beautiful graphics and cinematics, and gosh darnit, a big ol' hunk of gametime (not that you should take quantity over quality).

Now though, it seems that while all those things can be important in a game, it's equally important that the game doesn't come all tied up in the awkward, androgynous, pop music littered wrapping paper from Japan.... not that there's anything inherently wrong with Japan.

At one point Japanese games ruled the American marketplace (in more than just the fiscal sense... pfft... Wii!), but now it looks like western audiences prefer hardcore games by western developers. Do suspect this trend will continue? Do developers in Asia need my money if they're getting my kid brother's and all his friends'? And if they want us back what might they want to change? Just their lead character's hairstyle?

The game Deadly Premonition started out as a game that no one really talked about and is now starting to become a cult hit and somewhat of a growing internet phenomenon due to videos such as this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =ZgZSxoUsaCc.(I swear its like this the whole game and its amazing) Its one of those games thats is so terrible its awesome and brilliant. I honestly own a copy and in no way whatsoever regret buying it. I love it. Why question is have you guys played it and if so do you enjoy it and laugh as much as I did? And do you think this game has the potential to become bigger than a cult hit?

With the sale of the Ps3 being somewhat slow, and the recent PSN outage on PS3 (fatty), do you think some major publishers could switch over to the 360. In the past games that where sony exclusives switched to 360 games as multi platform. Do you think the PSN outage gives more reason to publishers to switch to multi-platform. Especially since its already more difficult to develop for the PS3?

As gamers, one thing we all want is for video games to be a respected form of entertainment, like movies or tv.
That being said, there are a lot of upcoming peripherals for major consoles that seem...gimmicky.
It seems like Project Natal and Sony's Arc will accomplish the goal of selling more systems,
but they may be a step back in making video games respected as anything other than a way to kill time.
Do you think that Natal and Arc will be good or bad for the video game industry as a whole?

What is your take on the re-booting of the "Alien" franchises in the video game world? With the success of Rebellions "Aliens vs Predator" and the upcomming "Aliens: Colonial Marines" developed by Gearbox, is this something you enjoy seeing come alive on home consoles and pc's? Do you guys enjoy licenced titles?

I ve been hearing a lot about Battlefield: Bad Company 2, mostly which it s multiplayer will definitely rival Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer. If BBC2 s multiplayer lives up to the hype, do you see it overtaking MW2 as the online shooter to play, come close to beating MW2, or will people just play it for a few weeks and then go back to playing MW2? Judging by how many people have already returned their copies of MW2 to stores because of the problems in multiplayer, I truly believe that BBC2 will stand a chance.

There are no doubt a great number of infuriated gamers around the world due to the PS3 meltdown. This is due to hardware and not the games themselves or so im told. I know this is a bit of a stretch but id like to ask the panel which games have pissed you off the most due to either glitches, impossible tasks, or just terrible gameplay experiances. It seems most every hardcore gamer ive talked to has had at least one game inspired nervous breakdown and broken a controller or two. Has this nerd rage phenomena affected you? What games caused it? And how many if any controllers have you broken in your lifetime? Dont be shy. Wear it as a badge of honor! I myself have taken an oath never to play Trials HD, Tenchu 2, or Mario Party ever again.

ps. N64 controllers are easiest to destroy.

Do you feel that video games are shifting to a point where they become too realistic that they lose their sense of fantasy and freedom to do extraordinary feats (such as heavy rain) that appeals to most gamers, or that such a point even exists? While I love playing realistic games, if I go too long without my whimsical games like Ratchet & Clank or even Wii Sports Resort I feel like I'm going to go insane.

One of the questions that has been raised by me and by my fellow half life friends is whether Half Life 2 Episode 3 or just Half Life 3 will be announced This E3,and if so what is the probabilty that it will come out this year. Also if you could enlighten us on any information that you are privy to about how the game is progressing, that would be much appreciated.

When walking through my local game store, I noticed that MW2 is still on sale for $59.99, even for PC. Do you guys think that the price hike should (or will) stick around for the PC, or should the price stay lower to keep PC buyers from buying games for other consoles?

Do you think that there will ever be the same amount of "Adult Content" in games as there is in TV shows and Movies?

Is it just me or have video games/apps begun to get more and more pressure to censor things that can bee seen on 90% of daytime TV shows?

I mean i know there never going to be a main stream game with a porn scene in it, but with mass effect 1 there was a least a bit of side boob ME2...well i seen more nudity in a episode of the Simpsons. and with apples crack down on there app store because they were getting customer complaints from women who found the content degrading, unless your Playboy or SI then its A OK.

What are your impressions of APB. I don't think it'll be as poor as Crimecraft, but do you think it'll be worth it?
