Details about Nintendo and Team Ninja’s intriguing co-developed Metroid: Other M were scant prior to Nintendo’s media shindig yesterday. Not only did we have our collective brains bent by the revelation that the game would let players switch freely between 2D and 3D perspectives, but X-Play’s Abbie Heppe actually had a chance to play through a few sections of the game. Based on her impressions, it’s clear that Abbie loves her some Metroid, which is why you have to trust her when she says it’s a bit too early to tell whether Other M can meet its lofty goals.
"Samus performs melee combat moves like leaping on an enemy’s back and putting a beam shot through his/her head, and more. It's very Team Ninja, but I wasn't clear on how much of the melee I was doing rather than the game doing it for me. Felt like the latter."

I'm a huge Metroid fan, but this game makes me nervous. Like he said, he didn't know if he was controlling Samus, or if the game was. I don't mind Samus being talkative, but please tell me this game will give us the challenge we're used to.

I was really excited for this game. But this just looks kinda awkward. The monsters...just dont look right to me. The video they put together made it look more...whats the word...appealing. And that giant map in the corner, yuck. I am a little disappointed after looking at this screen shot. I hope this will turn out good, I love Metroid.

If this was made by team Ninja, does that mean the jiggle physics are going to be in effect?
