You guys have demanded we talk about Heavy Rain for weeks. Believe me, the Feedback crew (heck, the whole G4 staff) has wanted to talk about Heavy Rain for weeks, too. Thankfully, with Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain now on store shelves, the Heavy Rain edition of Feedback is now here. Andrew Pfister, Adam Sessler, Sterling McGarvey, Mike Leffler of X-Play and myself headed into the studio to discuss 2010's most controversial game yet. There are some strong opinions on this one, friends.
In this week's episode of Feedback...
- Three of us spent most of last week at the Red Rock Casino & Resort in Las Vegas to take in DICE 2010. We went, we saw, we learned, we talked. Find out what our big takeaways were.
- Heavy Rain discussion for a good, long time. 'Nuff said!
- A user wonders whether younger gamers play video games for a different reason and whether older gamers with more experience go into playing video games with a unique eye.
Feedback, spending nights in Las Vegas inside watching episodes of Lost since, er, last week.

I beat the entire game. I won't spoil it for you guys but I have to say, it is completely amazing. This game is a definite buy. Yeah, it has minor glitches and flaws, I still loved it.
The ending that I received wasn't something I expected and I am definitely playing this game over again to get the ending I want!

its tough to find the time to sit down and watch Feedback, never thought they would have enough to talk about but they kept me interested.

I was REALLY wishing & waiting for you guys to talk about the DICE 2010 "Design Outside the Box" Presentation with Jesse Schell [sp?].
He had a really MIND-BLOWING speech that I thought would SURELY have made it into Feedback this week. What with the whole Real Life Achievements thing & all the other stuff he talked about.
Maybe you guys will include it in next week's Feedback?
It would be sooo fascinating if you guys would talk about that presentation for a little bit during Feedback; I'd really like to get you guys' take/thoughts on the presentation, and hear discussion on it.
That'd totally be awesome.
Thanks!

. Totally agree on the maturity thing I mean I would never even touch a book, would find any kind of literature very boring. Now I spend as much time reading and writing as I do playing video games.....by the way thanks for letting me know that Dante's inferno was based on poetry on the last feedback. I love the art of poetry but it's kinda scary when you can actually visualize what you write, that recently happened to me with one of my poems

Another amazing feedback episode. Love the camera zoom in on Mike Leffler's Cinematic eyes.

Great show, great Question of the Week. Never really thought about it before but I do play characteristically the same now that the first games I played trained/taught me to. Like my obsession with exploring every crevice thanks to the Zeldas, Marios, & Sonics; if i find a shortcut, I have to go back to see what I might have missed, or if there's a false wall, moveable rock, etc. I don't necessarily expect it in every game, but don't want to take a chance on missing something.
No love to tecmo-bowl though, thanks to that, I am cursed to drop 20-steps & launch the pass in Madden.

First off, good job on this weeks episode. It was a very good discussion.
You are correct in the sense that Heavy Rain is impossible to label. Unfortunately a series of quick time events is exactly what it is. It's not a bad thing but as an example, if 'Heavy Rain' was a word/phrase listed in an urban dictionary it's definition could very well be "a series of quick time events."; Billy was in a Heavy Rain trying to quickly finish his exam in 5 minutes. However that is only a definition of it, it is not an explanation to why it exists or why it is important.
Heavy Rain is an experiment and experiments and risks are important because they are the future of development. We have all done quick time events but we have never done them like this. This experiment is a taxonomic evolution of quick time events. If anything ever comes out again that allows you to interactively control a character people will say the phrase "They improved on the Heavy Rain system by..." or "This was a step in the wrong direction. Heavy Rain did it better". The developers defined themselves a new genre with this title.
Just like Mario Bros. defined platforming games, Heavy Rain defines real time interactive experiences.
Now I just need to hope that no developer will ever try to put out an interactive "buddy cop" experience because that I believe will be taking it too far. :)

thank you for showing that ppl can discuss a games good/bad qualities without four letter words and homosexual slurr words

The moment when i became the most invested in Heavy Rain is when i killed that guy who called Blake the anti-christ. I just felt so bad

I had a great laugh at the end when they talk about the movies that they were exposed to at an early age, my parents took me to see Alien when I was 6. They were so engrossed with the movie they failed to notice my abject terror. After weeks of nightmares, I was indoctrinated and have loved horror and sci-fi from that day to now.

I really enjoy the discussions on here. I think the greatest future game content will come from the independent development companies. Granted they don't have the bank roll like some other studios to just suckup development talent but they have the "sink or swim" pressure to truly create artistic, playable, relatively bug free games.

Thank you for this intuitive segment and a round of applause for the great production work that held my attention for 49 minutes. I wonder if a future topic could be discussed further regarding the "business" side of video games and the effects it has had on the retail buying experience. As an "older" gamer, I am tired of the complete lack of customer service and am honestly looking to purchase only from online retailers or digital download services. Adam said hello at the beginning of this segment...why can't the retail stores do that. As a consumer, telling me to get a game because a magazine rated it a high number doesn't necessarily mean I want it. Your discussion on Heavy Rain makes we want to play this new entertainment experience. I am proud to be a member of the G4TV community and I thank you again for all that you do.
