Dear Games Industry, We Need More Games Like Halo 3 ODST

It would be insane for Bungie Studios to categorically rule out working on another Halo game after Halo: Reach is released later this year on Xbox 360. Even though internal Microsoft developer 343 Industries is not-so-secretly working on whatever's coming after Halo: Reach, it's always possible Bungie could come back to Halo. The studio is admitting that's possible, too.

"You know, it might be premature to say we'll never ever, ever make a Halo game again," said Bungie community and franchise director Brian Jarrard to CVG. "We sort of have a little special place for Halo in our hearts. But for the foreseeable future, this [Halo: Reach] is it."

Jarrad later said the team is working extremely hard on Halo: Reach just in case it ends up being the last Halo product that Bungie ever works on. The future of Bungie post-Halo: Reach remains a big mystery, but if moving past Halo doesn't work out for them, leaving the door open to Master Chief and the Covenant seems like a smart move. Why close that door?

Personally I don't care if they don't ever make another Halo game. I mean don't get me wrong I have enjoyed each one, but all I really want to know is what happens after Halo 3. No more prequels or side stories just give me the facts:

    1. Does Master Chief survive
    2. What happens with the covenant

That's all I want to know, answer me those two questions and we can just call it square.

I am completely happy with where Bungie has taken Halo, and their is no possible way they can make Reach suck; that said, I'm ready for this to be the last, greatest Halo, made my the Halo masters themselves. Whatever they do move onto though, I feel it will be awesome!

    Ohk; here's what I think:

343 Industries will explore the rest of the Halo lore, and make games (preferably Shooters over RTS's, for immersion's sake) on the rest of the major battles, and once they've explored almost every major battle, or key event, in Halo..
..Bungie will come back to finish off the Halo story with a "Halo 4" game, wrapping up loose ends.

There's still PLENTY of story to explore in the Halo lore that I would VERY much like to be put into a game (asides from recovering John-117 & Cortana from the back-end of Forward Unto Dawn, and finding out just WTH that planet was, or w/e the ship was in orbit over - my guess is Onyx).

1.] Eradicating the rest of the Flood (allegedly still alive) on the other deactivated Halo rings.
[Only Installation 04/Alpha Halo (twice) & Installation 05/Delta Halo have been conquered, with the addition of Installation 00/The Ark. Installations 01, 02, 03, 06, & 07 have yet to be visited; thats FIVE more Halos to go to.]
Each ring visited can be a Halo spin-off of some sort. The mission would be to eradicate the Flood on each ring, while fending off interruptions by the Covenant Brutes.
And you can play as either a Spartan (2 or 3), an ODST, or a Sangheili Elite.
    [post-Halo 3]

2.] Remnants of the Covenant Loyalists, especially the Jiralhanae (Brutes), still have to be finished off.
    [post-Halo 3]

3.] There's still the Unknown/MIA Status of the UNSC Spirit of Fire, after Halo Wars; which carries the 2nd smartest scientist - Ellen Anders - and the rest of the Spartan Red Team [Douglas-042, Jerome-092, & Alice-130]. (First smartest, being Dr. Catherine Halsey)
They HAVE to be found & recovered at SOME point.
    [post-Halo Wars]

4.] There's STILL the other half of the Spartans that DIDN'T go with Dr. Catherine Halsey to the Shield World/Onyx, after the Fall of Reach. (unless they've been reassigned & I just don't know which ones they currently are)
    [Fall of Reach novel]

5.] There's the Battle of Onyx and the events that took place on the Shield World - Onyx - with Dr. Catherine Halsey & the rest of the surviving Spartans [Red/Blue Team?] stuck, trying to find a way out.
    [Ghosts of Onyx novel]

6.] There's the Battle of The Rubble, which introduces the Spartan Gray Team [Jai-006, Adriana-111, & Mike-???] & the events that took place there, including Jacob Keyes' victory & promotion, and the Arbiter Thel Vadam's first encounter with a Spartan (that, being Jai-006 of Gray Team).
All leading up to the events of the beginning of the Battle of Reach, going into year 2552.
[The Cole Protocol novel; pre-Battle of Reach]

7.] There's the story of Halo Blood Line [5-part comic series], which introduces the Spartan Black Team [Black-1, Black-2, Black-3, & Victor-101/Black-4], working for ONI, on a Black Ops mission.
They crash-land on a remote moon within Covenant space, along with a Covenant Cruiser; they then have to work together to fight against 686 Ebullient Prism - a Monitor of Line Installation 1-4 - who've been kidnapping lifeforms that show an immunity to the Flood infection.
Thats a 4-player co-op right there, with a tentative alliance with the Covenant, to fight against 686 Ebullient Prism AND Flood.
    [pre-Halo 1; pre-Battle of Reach]

    Well look at that..
    ..Another "7" nod..and it wasn't even intentional.

I hope 343 Industries makes games from the 7 aforementioned events, or at least spin-offs of the 1st two.
I'd rather have Bungie work on the last 5.

If they go back to halo after reach soon then it'll most likely be a remake and update of the first Halo, but that will just be a side release for the wait for their next big mystery project

Keep the line going MS and Activision.. keep serving the the videogame equivalent of spray painted gray glop while others work on games like Heavy Rain.. keep with the status quo until you get that look of shock when the industry has suddenly passed you by.

I remember when halo 1 had 3 shot head shot pistol and the "sniper"shotgun that was fun. then Halo 2 came, got me mad when Master chief said "to finish the fight" and the screen went black. Halo 3 is fun with all of the custem maps but halo wars was a fail ODST little fun more challing. I think thay should make one more to close it cause what the hell happend to Chief! Then make a disk whith all the halos Halo Reach Halo1,2,ODST,3, and 4

Halo is a dead series and its a shame. Halo : Combat Evolved was amazing. Halo 2 was also good but lost the flare the first one had. And Halo 3 is where the small downhill slope become a very steep cliff. Hope fully in time people will stop throwing away money for a game that hasn't changed since the first installment, for the most part.

I would honestly pay $60 for a halo game that only had a multiplayer component. If they kept upgrading the technology put into it then it would be worth it for the hours of fun.

I haven't SERIOUSLY enjoyed a Halo game since.. well, Halo. Halo 2 and 3 screwed up the story IMO, and the multiplayer just wasn't the same without the pistol. Though I did enjoy a number of hours with Halo 2 because it was on Xbox Live. I think Halo has officially become a cash cow..

I just hope they have a backdoor in the contract with Microsoft that if anyone tries to make a Halo based RPG, rail shooter, or dating sim. They have the right to destroy all copies of the game and take over the franchise again.

I would like to see versions of the original 3 Halo Games redone with the updated engine and software they are coming up with for Reach and maybe expand out the storylines. Don't get me wrong, I like the Halo story and the whole universe, but the single player campaign in Halo 3 was a bit short and direct. I doubt this will ever happen as it would be a huge undertaking just to tell the same story all over again, but I would still love it plus it would be good way to get a ton of extra maps on the multiplayer. Its fun to speculate.

I remember when the first Halo game came out I would always go to my friends house after school to play it, I wouldn't get around to my homework till about midnight cuz we were playing it so much. The story was amazing and it really had the epic sci-fi type of plot that just hooked me. This series brought me so many great memories with my friends and had a huge impact in my life during my jr.high and high school days. After finishing Halo 3 I felt like they could have done so much more with the ending but I knew they were trying to leave it open in case they wanted to make another one and I had my hopes. Then when I heard about Halo Wars, ODST and Reach I just felt let down, in my mind I was thinking (What the heck are you doing Bungie? This series needs more of a closer!!) I'll purchase Halo Reach because I did like the book series and I feel that they will do a good job with it but they need to close this series off with a bang. The Halo series is part of gaming history it doesn't matter if your a PS3 fan or an Xbox fan I'm sure we can all agree that everyone had fun playing this at some point in time. I fully agree with Chewbaca_The_Wookie about the "Believe" marketing campaign that was one of the best marketing campaigns I've ever seen for a video game franchise. When those started airing back in 2006 I felt like a little kid again I've never felt that excited about a game before. lol

I think its for the best. If/When MS and 343 mess up Halo*, Bungie can still come to the rescue. But I'd imagine that the foreseeable future is at least 3 years. I'd rather see them be totally done, but hey, that's a guaranteed cash-maker that would be stupid to completely abandon.

*How MS and 343 can screw up Halo: Over saturate the market with Halo games, and let the quality slide on those games. By over saturate, I mean no more than a Halo shooter once every 2 (preferably 3) years, and well thought out side games on rare occasion. Don't whore out the title to every available developer. Don't try to put Halo in a genre where it doesn't belong. And don't beat us over the head with alternate media. A little here, a little there please. And if you totally bomb that Halo shooter, don't try to right it. Just wait until Bungie feels like making a proper Halo game, they just left the door open for you.

I wish that HALO3 was as much fun to play as it was to scour the interwebs for stuff dealing with Bungie's "Believe" marketing campaign. That marketing campaign to this day remains the best that I've ever seen. (which is really high praise if you know how much i hate "marketing") If they had designed the game around that campaign Halo3 would have been as epic as ME2, but allas, it was merely a decent shooter that jump-started microsoft's new(at the time) xbox live.

But as cool as the story of Reach SHOULD be, I feel as if they are taking a step backwards. With the "Believe" campaign bungie really really gives you a sence that humanity is quite literally taking it's last breath and then ONE man John S. 117 pulled the human race out of the clutches of death and gave us infinitesimally more than a snow balls chance in hell. But then he dies, and this one action causes so much despair and grief that humanity rises up one more time to give the covenant a bloody nose but somehow manages to find the strength to beat the ever loving crap out of them. BOY talk about a climax, and it's been building to this point since halo 1, and NOW they are going to do a game about the fall of Reach? They should have started with that, the battle that made humanity realize that we aren't the biggest kid on the block. You can't just kill off our savior and then go back to before was even really known.

At least the Mass Effect franchise started on the right foot for a trilogy and so far is batting 1000. Especially with Drew Karpyshan writing, Bioware can't go wrong with this. I mean the "Fight for the Lost" campaign is a little vague if you haven't played the game. When i first heard it I thought "who are these 'lost' and why should i Fight for them?" But the game is so good that it can stand by itself without any marketing really, and when the 3rd one comes out the Game will be just as epic as the Halo "Believe" campaign, and be 10 times more effective. If they kill off shepherd i'll be only slightly disappointed because I'm afraid it might be inevitable the way the story is going. But I digress...

My point is that Halo Reach is like if BioWare made a Mass Effect game about the First Contact War. It's good back story but just not something you want people to play AFTER your climax. LEAVE IT AS BACKSTORY!!!

I'm not saying that Halo Reach won't Rock \m/. In fact i really hope it does, but only because Halo is nostalgic for me. The gameplay, the combat, the yelling at the TV, yelling at your friends that just headshot you from across Blood Gultch, Haloween parties, but certainly not for the story.

I wish the industry would stop trying to revitalize existing franchises in a half assed way to make money. If you going to put the time an effort into making a good franchise better, DO IT RIGHT AND TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Otherwise just give is NEW IP!!!

Thats my rant for the week. I'm not trolling, it's just my opinion and I'm really interested to see what the general consensus is about this. So far it seems very mixed.
