In this episode of X-Play's Know Your Roots, we speak to David Crane, one of the founders of Activision and the creator of the first-ever platformer (Pitfall), A Boy and his Blob and Sims predecessor Little Computer People.

Seriously, video games wouldn't be what they are today without the direct influence of Mr. David Crane. Know your roots, gamer!

I wonder what David has to say about the Activision today?

I loved Pitfall, but loved Pitfall II even more. First game I ever got a perfect score on, and man was it tough. The music was great, too!

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to shoot the Pitfall cartridge with a shotgun. Predates saved games, so when you die, you start over. A Boy and His Blob was awesome. Thank you Mr. Crane!

Man, I wish I was alive back in those days. Now, I feel like less of a gamer. I mean, how can I call myself a gamer if I haven't bothered to play some of the most obvious classics (excluding Nintendo and Galaga)? To Google to download illegal files!

Yes David Crane you are legendary. I remember as a boy flipping through the old Activision booklets and gazing in awe at the creator pics and memorizing their names. These guys were *my* '62 New York Yankees. This is no lie. I idolized them, and I wanted to be just like them. I wanted to start a career in videogames when I grew up. Thanks David Crane and thanks to everyone from old school Activision!

This segment made me miss the old show Icons. More gamers should take the time to learn more about the birth growth of the industry. It's built on the hearts of people like David who did it for the love of the games, not just a love of money.

wow, just yesterday I was talking about pitfall with a friend of mine! Those were the days...they should do a remake of a 21st century version of pitfall! I'll buy it.

David Crane, thank you. We owe you one. Well, ok, maybe more than one.
