Between the announcement news earlier about BioShock 2’s upcoming multiplayer downloadable content, DICE’s tease about Battlefield 3, and the preview session I just had with Square Enix’s action-stravaganza Just Cause 2, it’s hardly surprising that the idea of sequels is occupying most of my thinking brain at the moment. And because of it, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to hear your picks for the best sequels of all time. What makes those sequels great?
My short list would probably be: Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Grand Theft Auto III.
Discuss.

Okay, so I'm going to stick with true sequels. The second in a series only, so here goes:
Mega Man 2, Action games will never be the same again.
Worms 2, turn based perfection.
Marvel VS Campcom 2, the last great cel shaded fighter, sorry Guilty Gears.
Warcraft 2, Warcraft was good, Tides of Darkness wsa GREAT.
Metriod 2, the best gameboy game I've ever finished, over Link's awakening.
Tie Fighter, what Wing Commander started, Tie Fighter finished, with Lucas flare.
Doom 2, Twice the fun, twice the enemies, twice the numbers.
Quake 2, Quake was a mindless walkthrough, 2 gave a coherent story and awesome multiplayer.
Street Fighter 2, seriously, do I need to explain it. Can I end on a better note???

1.Suikoden 2, more of a personal favorite. Luca Blight the best antagonist I've ever seen, but that can happen when you witness your mother getting raped repeatedly.
2.Mass Effect 2, Mining aside this game is perfect IMO. Probably has the best writing in the history of games.
3. Star Ocean 2, great game although its sad this was the last good game in the series.
4. Half-Life 2, I didn't really care for the original but somehow Valve made me fall in love with it.
5. Fallout 2, 2 words, Child Killing

Call of Duty 2. It was the basically the first,( I played Halo once or twice), FPS I ever played. The scale of this game was epic in every aspect. I play at least one campaign every year.
Ratchet and Clank Going Commando took the basic action platforming and redefined it to be even more awesome. I beat that game 5 times. The RYNO, greatest gun ever.
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory emmursed me into these chaotic war-torn universes.
Also pretty much every 'good' game is going to be a sequel. It is very hard for the first iteration of an IP to be amazing, and not to be improved upon. The only one I can really thing of is Halo.

how about Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4
Street Fighter 2.
Phategod

Sly 3, Super Mario 64, Halo 2, Mass Effect 2, Gran Turismo 2, The Legend of Zelda:LttP and OoT, Half Life 2, Grand Theft Auto 3 would be my shortlist.
Strong story continuation, massive changes to freshen the experience, continued franchise continuity.(ie still feels like a good pair of jeans you've warn before) Tall order.
