Sid Meier's Civilization V Set To Destroy Lives This Fall

2K Games has made lovers of Sid Meier’s adored Civilization franchise extremely happy today by announcing that Civilization V will be ruining lives and/or drastically altering sleep schedules this fall.

Firaxis Games creative director Sid Meier said the following in a statement to the press:

“Each new version of Civilization presents exciting challenges for our team. Thankfully, ideas on how to bring new and fun experiences to Civ players never seem to stop flowing. From fully animated leaders and realistic landscapes, new combat tactics, expanded diplomacy and shared mods, we’re excited for players to see the new vision our team at Firaxis has brought to the series.”

Civ addicts will also be able to get their fix via Firaxis’ other project, the Facebook-based title, Sid Meier’s Civilization Network, which will also be launching this year.

Hit the break to see some screens of Civ V in action.

I was able to beat every version of this game at the highest levels of difficulty until CIV4. I expect to really get beat up by the AI in CIV5.

I will get this game, but I fear I can never beat it.

There is a God after all. Now, if they can just fix the SimCity franchise, all will be well for the next few years.

Things this game should have: Portrait backgrounds and outfits that evolved dependent upon what era a civilization is in (like in CivIII), a castle/palace that is customizable (like in CivIII) and more technologies because I can't get enough of Leonard Nimoy's voice acting!!!

YES! Civilization has been a long held favorite franchise of mine and I have been waiting for this game for so long. The graphics look amazing and the revamped battle system is something that the games long devoted players will definitely appreciate. For a while there i was worried that we weren't going to hear about this game for a while seeing as how Civ. Rev. did so well and it wouldn't have surprised me if they went to work on a 2nd.

It is interesting however that they are going for on a more casual focus with the Facebook integration as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be the first of many major games coming to facebook with a more casual focus; possibly something like Advanced Wars for Facebook?

Turns out John Davison was right on the money when he tossed around the idea of Civ. on Facebook back in December on "4 guys 1UP" the EGM podcast.

As a young(er) man, I remember playing the original and Civnet in my basement. I love this Series almost as much as I love Police Quest and SWAT.
