Final Fantasy XI players! Before you flip over another car and set it aflame, you need to know something: your beloved online RPG is not in fact shutting down as the Japanese interwebs would have you believe.
Word started to spread yesterday that Square Enix planned to shut down FFXI to make room for its next online RPG Final Fantasy XIV. But, according to Kotaku, Square’s Yoichi Wada has seen fit to end all of the cancellation talk via the following Twitter posting:
"There seems to be a rumor that FFXI is ending, but if that was done, we’d be in trouble.”
Granted, there will come a time when FFXI will end, but for now, players can rest easy knowing that their virtual world of choice won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Anyone here still playing Final Fantasy XI? Do you think you'll give it up when FFXIV arrives?

I play FFXI once a month at the moment so if it got shut down it wouldn't bother me. On thing is for sure, FFXIV can go to hell! They removed levels for stat boosting so there is no grind. The grind is what keeps people playing! It gives them a goal to strive for and keeps people on for long periods of time. I only play once a month because I don't have much time to spend on it with all the other games I have and money is not easy to make in FFXI since they changed the selling value of a lot of items.

I still like FFXI after playing MMOs like WoW for years. If you can forgive the 2002 PS2 graphics and sluggish gameplay, it's a really well produced MMO that still beats out many games post WoW.

oh and yes i am playing xi and i probably will stop once 14 comes out oh and lets not forget 13.

iv played it before it was ok but my friend misa still plays the game on and off and a couple of her friends do also so i think that would piss them off expecially misa and to be honest i cant wait for FF:XIV it looked pretty nifty i wana see how it turns out.

thats good news but you know what would be better news if wow shutdown, not because i have anything against the game but because my mom discovered it and she hasnt left her computer since then now im forced to cook and clean all the time on top of that i have my own job and this makes it really hard to find time to play my games.

wow i could only imagine the mass chaos that would have happened with that, but i am one that played FFXI for many years and would hate to see the servers end, but i am also looking forward to FF:XIV :)
