For those of you who have yet to check out THQ’s apocalyptic action title Darksiders, you’ll have a very unique opportunity to do so thanks to a new demo coming to PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade February 25.
"But Jake, since when is a demo for a game that’s been out for a month worthy of such attention as this?” Since now, that’s when, because this isn’t just your typical 15-minute nibble. This is a 90-minute affair comprised of the game’s entire first dungeon, Twilight Cathedral. Of course, the actual play-time will vary from player to player, but it’s an impressive offering nonetheless.
What makes a great demo? What’s the best game demo you’ve ever played? Half-Life: Day One stands atop my list, and only partly because it's the first one that comes to mind.

God of War demo on the PS2 is my favorite.

The Shadowrun(360) demo was great I think an online demo that you and all your friends can say, hey check this out, let's play. Is a good demo, or just one that grabs you into the story like Bioshock. Those are the best.

I will definitely be checking it out and for 90 minutes? Sure sounds very nice and with the game being over $60, including tax, that's just a lot of money but it may be worth it.
The only game I'm waiting for is God of War 3 and I just reserved it not long ago so that really is a game I'm greatly anticipating on its released.

metal gear solid on PS1. This introduced me to the series and I remember playing through that demo about ten times before buying the game. I couldnt get enough of it! it was pretty sweet how kijoma introduced the credits into this opening scene. and they also let us kill some guys in the snow, which was awesome

The Lost Planet demo was one of the most satisfying demos that i played yet left me wanting more of what the game has to offer.

FINALLY!
Took 'em long enough.
That demo SHOULD have been out BEFORE the game was released. Laaaaate.
I've been wanting to play the demo for a while now, so I can check out the game before making the purchase.

What makes a great demo?
Hmm..Something that has enough depth/length of gameplay, that you don't feel like your experience was cut short, but doesn't feel like you're playing the entire game either.
It gives you access to key gameplay mechanics, without spoiling both gameplay experience & the story (if any).
A great demo leaves you wanting more & more; and makes you want to play it over & over.
It doesn't give you the feeling of "burnout".

Best game demo I've ever played?
Well, since I can't remember the endearing demos of yester-years (e.g. those PS1 demo discs, as fatman2008 mentioned above), the ones most prominent in my mind are:
- Fracture [Don't hate!]
(I don't care who you are; Terra-forming in a game is FREAKIN' awesome.)
- Lost Planet 2
(That demo felt polished enough for them to release the whole game; which is why I don't understand the delay in release.)
&
- Dante's Inferno [Again; Don't Hate!]
(I just got hooked/addicted to leveling up on the Skill Tree; especially being Holy Path-dominant. Forget Death's Scythe; Beatrice's Holy Cross was UBER-powerful! Talk about shooting minions/demons with Iron Man's Repulser Beam! LoL)

Phantasy Star Universe, Lost Planet, and Shadowrun demos on Xbox360. Although I only bought Lost Planet and Shadowrun sucked I played those demos so much with friends (them all being online) I had just as much fun with them as i would a full game.

The best demo I've ever played was CoD2. I was on the fence about which console to get, then I played CoD2 and had to have it. So 360 became my console. I can remember actually waiting for my Mom needing to go to Walmart/Target/Best Buy just so I can play the demo.

Screw the demo... BUY THIS GAME!!! It's a ton of fun.
The best part about the game is that it "borrows" many elements from games you know and love. And not in a crappy cheesy way, they take an idea and either match the quality or make it better. It basically feels like a love letter from a fellow gaming fan.
BONERJAM
Thats a pretty long demo.

This game just continue to amaze me!! First the free game and now a 90 minute Demo!! That's the true mark of someone who stands behind their product!! and what fan appreciation really means!!

I also enjoyed the Bioshock demo when it first came out on PSN, it really cemented my purchase of the game. But I already knew about Bioshock, I knew it had received a lot of good reviews and praise. Same (somewhat) w/ the Metal Gear Solid demo, that came on a disc w/ an issue of OPM, back in '97 or '98, I don't remember. I was looking forward to MGS and was reading everything I could about it. If you had asked me anything about Bad Company 2 two weeks ago, I wouldn't have been able to tell you much. Then I played the demo, and less than twenty-four hrs. later I pre-ordered it. That's why I'd pick the BF:BC2 demo. That game went from being nowhere on my radar to the top of my most-wanted list.

this is nice. I was interested in the game but was really waiting a for a price drop around summer time when really nothing decent is coming out.

Favorite demo? Portal. Hands down. The last time I remember playing a 90 minute demo was Viva Pinata. That thing went on so long I started to think I'd somehow accidentally downloaded the whole game.
mksystem74
it'll give people a real idea how fun the game is. I beat the game, got my 1000 gamerscore on it and it was pretty fun. With the already announced sequel to the game, this might boost people to go out and get the game.
mikesctr
wow that is actually pretty cool. I'll definitely be checking it out, but I'm just wondering how much space will it take up on my hard drive. Knowing that it is about 90 min, I would think that it will be a large download.
SilverJC
OMG!!! This is the mort epic stuff I ever heard
fatman2008
My favorite demo was anything that used to come on the old ps1 demo discs there was so much to try.
ShaggyMetalHead
With the gameplay length of some games now, its like a freebie game.
