Sorry, PC gamers. Remedy Games’ atmospheric thriller Alan Wake will not be released for the mouse and keyboard crowd. The game is now officially an Xbox 360 exclusive.
A Microsoft spokesperson broke the news to Strategy Informer, saying, "We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive…This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."
Remedy said back in July that while they were focusing their development efforts on the 360 version, they were still open to the idea of bringing it to the PC as well. However, the decision to pursue a PC version was ultimately up to Microsoft, and apparently, Microsoft won out. So come May 18, if you want to solve the dark and deadly mysteries of Alan Wake, it’s Xbox 360 or nothing.
Thoughts, PC gamers?

We all know when they say this is bs.
My opinion being a PC gamer: What a big waste of a great looking game engine for an outdated console.

Well I guess it Microsoft keeps shafting the PC, I have no reason to own one?
Guess I'll stick with Apple and Sony.
PS: The PC trumps the Xbox 360 as a gaming experience. Every time I see the aging graphics on the 360 it makes me want to throw up.

It makes sense from a business perspective since they are not limiting there exposure but limiting piracy. The majority of pc gamers pirate their games while there is only a limited number of pirated consoles and they run te risk of being banned from XBL so for them it's just not worth it to pirate a game.

Micro$oft obviously paid them to not make it for PC. Glad it's not that great of a game anyway for me to really care about. Apparently M$ finally realized that if all their good (like a 4 of them) games came out on PC as well no one smart would actually waste the money on an XboxPleaseFixMe when they already have a computer at home. Example: Fable 2......Fable 1 came out for PC but where is Fable 2? M$ apparently knows they already got you to buy there OS so why should they care about games anymore. I just hope for all our sakes M$ doesn't start doing this to every game out there that comes to there console.

I call BS on MS! They've been developing the PC version for far too long already in the development cycle to just dump it now. We'll see this game ported to the PC next year, with less bugs. Works for me.

imagine if only 1 gaming system existed?

Console exclusivity is a load. It's also unfair to gamers. Unless a game is developed or published by a console manufacturer, it shouldn't be exclusive to any one console. In other words, Remedy should release Alan Wake for the PC like they originally planned to do.

I think this is Fn crap. I've been waiting for this game for 3 years and now they pull this. Consoles have one use, Rockband, period. I think they're just getting lazy.

@M6000,
I guess the next time a buy a PC I should buy one with a RROD Operating System.

Looks like I will be getting Alan Wake on the 360 instead of the PC. No biggie, though, I do prefer to play on the PC.
Geez, what's with these people saying PC gaming is dead. When Stacraft 2, Diablo 3 and Star Wars: The Old Republic comes out, they will be all "OMG! I wish I have a better PC that could run those games!"

This isn't about greed and it's not about hating the PC gamer - it's about selling more 360s.
MS has pulled most of it's exclusives from the PC market - Fable, Gears and now Alan Wake. They realized that if their system selling titles kept showing up on the PC, people wouldn't bother with buying their console.
With the PS3 gaining a ton of momentum and overall looking to have a stronger lineup (or at least one thats extremely competitive with the 360), MS is looking to get any all leverage it can muster.
Also there's no coincidence this happens as the positive reviews for Heavy Rain are filtering out.
Some will say piracy has an effect and won't deny that, but it's also a great scapegoat for MS to fall back on.

woot so we get another exclusive. this is going to get a negative comment because of you stupid ps3 fanboys that are all over this post thumbs downing everying

I wouldn't worry to much it be out for the PC. Microsoft/Remedy want to make there money back first and then port it over to the PC. When a game come's out on the PC it takes only a day or two and it all over the net for free. You guys and girls know it to be true That what killing PC gameing.

They've been working on this game for like 7 years!! I really hope it FAILS. Why do people even care about this game? SERIOUSLY?!?!

I wish to hell Amazon would update their site now that the PC version's cancelled.

May 18th is my birthday. Hooray!

Well too many people made fun of MS for pretty much not having console exclusives. Now to rectify that it looks like their scrapping preplanned and almost finished pc version of what could be their biggest game of the year at the last minute. Why would anyone like Microsoft?

Next thing you know the release date will be pushed back from a spring to a summer release. I've been highly skeptical about that for a long time now but I'll admit Alan Wake looks to be a fine game. Eventually, IF the release date sticks and depending on sales, they'll have to consider a PC port to reach out toward a wider audience. All I know is that Alan Wake is on my buy list.
Still, it's no surprise Microsoft would pull something like this. Typical marketing tactic.
Guess PC gamers will just have to wait and see what happens.

wow, what a bunch of hatter in here. all you PS3 owners suck it. Sony does the same thing with their games. so how does MS fit in the Evil category when Sony doesn t?
