Wait, wait, wait. What the heck, right? We just published a new episode of Feedback, but we're already asking for a user question of the week? It's true. We're going to be at DICE next week, which means we're recording next week's episode of Feedback early. There may even be a special, DICE-exclusive version of Feedback (stay tuned for details!) It's all out of love. What should we talk about?

Globalisation and the internet has made the world a very small place indeed, opening the population up to a colossal amount of information and communication mediums. However, I find that the restrictions and laws that govern the Gaming community seem to consitently be becoming more controlling.
I am of course referring to Region Restrictions and Region Coding, especially as pertains to online content.
Far too often DLC or other online content is restricted to a select few countries. With the world as it is today, this makes no sense. Because I live in Switzerland, and I prefer to play my games in English, I must order my games from either the UK or the US. However, without some heavy account juggling, my overall experience is tarnished, as DLC or extra content is either region coded, or contains severe language restrictions.
One of the selling points of Xbox Live, PSN and multiplayer heavy games is that they can bring people together from all over the world. If this is so, then why is much of the gaming industry erecting massive walls between countries, refusing to adhere to a global market? The days of PAL and NTSC frequency TV's are long gone, yet we live in a world where the use of a PAL game in an NTSC console can severely damage the hardware. Is the gaming world so segmented and distrustful that we feel we must cordon off certain aspects of the gaming experience to foreigners, simply for the fact they do not live in the same country?
There's something just so disappointing about a little asterisked disclaimer at the bottom of the info sheet for DLC or other Digital content:
*Only available in the US and Canada.

What are your thoughts on modern day gaming consoles such as the Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 and this quest to somehow become almost a single "black box" that controls the flow of media into our homes? Do you think it's possible with this in mind of us one day seeing that possibility of a one console future with just one box that does everything and developers focusing on the content instead of the package?

i dont think you can convince someone who thinks that video games make people violent.
my aunt is sure that they do ive even gave her some studies that i found that said video games
dont but she will probably never change her mind. i play violent games all the time and im not violent because of it.

I've been playing video games since I was seven years old and thinking back my whole life has revolved around my love and passion for video games and now that i'm getting to a point in my life where I have to make a career decision like what to take in college and what to do beyond that. So I figured what better people to ask than Adam, Abbie and Patrick. So what advice could you give to me and other fellow young budding gaming journalists such as myself. (I ask this question because the dice event raised this personal dilemma to mind.)

Heavy rain :) I know its not OUT yet but still I just saw the new soapbox and any game that can be genuinely associated with shadow of the colossus sparks my interest and after testing the demo myself I would like to know if you guys think this is going to spawn a new genre of game (my guess would be for movies which would be good and bad (Scarface would be an excellent choice if you ask me (which you wont))) or just a one time deal.

i really want to hear about DLC. do you think they should charge for DLC which makes you feel like the game you bought was incomplete. for example ACII. when i got it i felt like it should've been in the game from the beginning.

Heavy Rain is a game I've had my eye on for a while. It's actually one of the main forces tempting me to buy a Ps3. The more I see of it lately, however, it looks more and more to be just a series of quick time events. How far off the mark am I on this one?

Like Mikewa33 whose comment is somewhere around here [there're alot of them], I too am in college and the only thing I've wanted to do since I was 10 is be a game developer. I've watched the industry grow over the years and while I'm also worried about overcrowding the industry what's really bothering me is an overcrowded industry of "ripoffs". With so many companies pumping out games why are we seeing better versions of the same idea and not as many "truly" new IP's? What do you think the next creative and new idea will entail?

I am currently in college to become a game designer and a little worried that the industry becoming a tad over populated. Do you think that it is becoming over populated and do you think it is effecting the game quality?

It is said that game development is getting more expensive and is expected to keep increasing following the next gaming generation. Two of the three current consoles brought with it an increased price for new games and plenty of DLC, some being questionable. So I ask, what is the next move for the industry to counter such cost?

My question is two-part: David Cage, the director behind Heavy Rain, in a recent interview with Official Playstation Magazine said that the reason there was nudity in his game was to show "fragil[ity]" and "vulnerab[ility]" to his character. Do you agree with his statement? If you do agree, do you think the gamer and the game industry have matured in the public eye to allow nudity or sexual content for artistic sake? i.e. will the public view it as art or will the public see it as a way of selling the game with the ill-conceived notion that the majority of gamers are male.

Have Sony given up on improving the PS3's interface and networking? I love my PS3 but the interface is extremely clunky and for owners of both the PS3 and 360 I feel pretty confident in saying that given the choice we prefer playing online on the 360. It's fast, simple and you can join a friend in game just by highlighting their name and clicking join; you don't have to already have the game launched and be waiting for an invite. This is a significant problem because it's keeping me from playing over PSN. I'd prefer to play on PSN because it's free and if people were leaving Xbox Live to play over PSN I think that would force Microsoft to unlock multiplayer for Silver members. It bothers me because instead of making matchmaking free Microsoft just keeps piling on new features to add perceived value but it's all features I don't care for and I don't use. Will Sony ever catch up to Xbox Live's implementation?

Activision announced they might want to make the call of duty franchise subscription based, do you think this business model would destroy call of duty?

Do you think the space sim genre is coming back. Though somewhat in a different form an MMO form.
With games like black prophecy, Universe Online, jumpgate evolution (all MMO's), naumachia space warfare, and massive free-ware based on the freespace 2 engine coming out. Do you think a real space sim like the likes of Freespace will ever come to the consoles or is it simply to hard and complex of a game for the more casual audience of the consoles or is the somewhat return of the space sim limited to the PC.

With the soon to be death of Xbox Live on the Original Brick (Xbox) it signals the end of an era for Microsoft's console. For me the Xbox will go down in history as the best console ever as it brought the biggest real change in gaming since console gaming started - Multiplayer to the masses.
So my question is....
Which console would you say is your Holy Grail (favourite of all time) and why?

On Monday, Microsoft unveiled Windows Phone 7. This features a section dedicated to Xbox LIVE, supporting many elements native to the Xbox 360. This would allow for cross platform game play, an arcade game on the 360 *could* play on the Windows Phone. Something like Pub Games for Fable II comes to mind.
So my question is, how awesome is this? Is this just massively awesome, or hyper awesome?

What are your thoughts on ALan Wake not coming to the PC (at least not on launch day)?
Frankly I think that there is a PC version of this game and MS made the decision to release it for the 360 in order to maximize the sales on that system. I won't be to surprised if the PC version of this will come at some point. I don't see what all the fuss is about since it's MS money that went into this project and they can damn well do what ever they want with it. MS can be very...pushy...when it comes to exclusives from second and third party developers and I won't be too surprised at all if this will be the first and last time Remedy works with them and MS will just hand off development for the sequel to a different studio. So far all the signs point out to a very troubled production with many delays and indecisiveness and most of the time it directly effects the final product, as in the case of Too Human. I am not saying this game is crap but I won't be too surprised if this game won't be what the hype made it out to be.
