Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Wait, wait, wait. What the heck, right? We just published a new episode of Feedback, but we're already asking for a user question of the week? It's true. We're going to be at DICE next week, which means we're recording next week's episode of Feedback early. There may even be a special, DICE-exclusive version of Feedback (stay tuned for details!) It's all out of love. What should we talk about?

How do you feel about remaking games. There has been a lot of speculative talk about Bungie hopefully remaking the Marathon series, and about a FFVII remake. I was wondering if the panel would like for older games to be remade using the much more advanced technology of today. in addition, what do you think if the games that being made now were to be re-created in the years to come, like if Bungie or even a different company remade the Halo series in 20 years like they do now with movies.

Being that the first quarter of this year is seeing the release of some very heavy-hitting titles (Mass Effect, Final Fantasty, God of War, ect), is it likely that the fall season will be just as good? Or are we going to see a slow down of big name titles? (With the exception of Halo: Reach)

Just finished watching Sessler's Soapbox on Heavy Rain and couldn't help but be mesmerized by the screen running Duke Nukem in the background. At this point, no one expects another Duke Nukem game to see the light of day, but who actually controls that ip? Is there a person to contact about possibly licensing it to, say, Bethesda, who've had some success in reinvigorating a cherished franchise? I guess what I'm really asking is, is it time to just give up hope?

Whats the problem of games evolving today?? I see lots of games today using the same trends that makes other games soo popular now.I've been gamer for 25 years and frankly I'm starting too get bored of playing the same old shooting game, rpg, ect.... .While i have played new games that have open my eyes to new worlds and what was possible to games like super mario bro 3,Alundra, FFVII ,Shadow of the Colossus,Uncharted to Fallout 3, I'am seeing games fall into rinse and repeat with the same generic gameplay and storytelling.Like really do we need the same zelda game again? he gets the same sword and defeats the same evil bad guy over and over again.I know as gamers we like to be babys and want whats new but if they want to he keep gamers on playing they have to stop this trend. Do you think predictability is ruining today's games and can games evolve or have we hit the glass ceiling?

Do you think the 250 GB Xbox 360 bundles, like the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and, the upcoming one for Final Fantasy 13, is a way to detracted people from the PS3 version, or is it a way to just sell 360's. and what system do you think will sell the most copies.

It has come to my attention that there has been a media pattern that has been around for decades now, where a popular book or comic is made into a movie which is then made into game. however now i am seeing a change in the pattern, where popular games are now being made into movies and some have even gone into a book. This theory of mine can be proven with the new movies in development like the Prince of Persia, Bioshock, and Halo. Do you think these movies will help spread video games to such height where they are at the same level as going to the movies. Also do you think we will be seeing this pattern a lot more in the future or do you think it's a passing fad like 3D movies and televisions?

I just saw an article for the Nintendo DS2. It said that it will include motion sensing capability. My question is how do you think this could/would work, do we really need a motion sensing DS cause I don't know about you but I don't want to be waving my arms looking like an idiot in public just to play my game. Also could this be evidence that the gaming industry is going too far with this motion capture craze just like the 3-D craze.

Mount and Blade is a game that introduced midevil battles with many people, and a decent combat system. But being Single Player, and having moderate graphix, sitting next to graphix powerhouses like bioshock and newr shooters, took a toll on some people. Others found longevity in a game where you could add mods, and have battles of 600, or even 1000 if you had the PC for it. The long awaited expansion brings Multiplayer into the Mount and lade Series at long last. And many modifications and improvements with graphix and Motion Captured Animations make Warband an excellent addition to any RPGer's collection. Taleworlds listened to the feedback of many a gamer, and the beta is out there.
The last date I heard was March 30th.
and someone kick Sessler in the butt and get him on the case, before we have to shave his head for not reviewing or previewing this one.
I don't need a gun, a true warrior has a horse, bow, shield, and sword, maybe even a lance. "Have fun storming the Castle!!" (yes, you can play Seiges) 64 person multiplayer, by the way.
(favorite game companies? Taleworlds, Egosoft, and Valve. oh, Bioware. these listen to their fans/gamers, and give them most of what they want.)

I seriously want Heavy Rain to be great as I've long been a proponent of deeper, more ambitious storytelling efforts in games. However, after playing the demo I'm worried that the control mechanics are going to have a clunkiness (clunk?) to them that will distract me the entire time, and the effectiveness of great storytelling seems contingent upon the mechanics not calling attention to themselves. What do you guys think about this? Especially Abbie, as I think broken controls are a hot button issue for her, too.

I want to know if Heavy Rain is worth playing? Also what do you think of the F.E.A.R games/

I want Shadow of the Colossus 2. I don't even have a PS3, but I still want it. Any word at all?

That was one of the first games that I played where cinematics were a big factor. Those cutscenes of the colossi are brilliant. I want to see that more often.

Please just talk about Red Dead Redemption, because that's all that will truly matter to me until April 27th.

here is a question: I have noticed that in the past few years of video games that they are trying more and more to connect to the players emotions for example on "No Russian" it was trying to make the player truely hate the villan or in Fallout 3 when you overhere the overseer talking to his daughter after you escape. Do you beleive that these experiences should be implemented into multiplayer? Such as choosing wether or not to let the last man standing to be taken prisoner or killed and you progress down a path based on desions like this.

Heavy Rain is a must buy for anyone who cares about gaming if for no other reason that to support this revolutionary game and to encourage innovation in gaming. I just played the demo and my wife and kids were just as glued to the screen as I was. This game is going to be the milestone to a whole new genre that has been long missing in the video game industry and needs all the support it can get to fuel the movement.

Why is this web site so slow, clunky and cluttered?

I think it's cause all the flash you guys use, ign.com has the same problem with annoying ads. Other, less flash heavy, web sites load up smoothly and fast like warm butter. You guys need to stop using flash so much because it' takes just too much cpu power. I ran Activity Monitor and the main page took 26 seconds to load and took 23% cpu power. A web site should not use that much cpu power when it loads.

With the release of games like Mass Effect 2 and Borderlands, it seems that JRPGs have lost some sense of residence in the world of RPGs. Those two games, along with Fallout, seem to have taken over RPGs while also blending in shooter elements. Do you think Final Fantasy can revive JRPGs and a somewhat classic style of RPGs or is it more of an entity in itself and wouldn't really make a difference?

Looking at the stuff on here about Heavy Rain, it reminds me of the back in the days of the Sega Saturn of game I played called "D" it was a mystery game where you try to figure out why uncle went crazy and open a door way to the past. The game was fun and interesting but kind for short. If Heavy Rain is a success will this mean there will be more games like this down the road? I would also like to see if this is successful, games like Myst where they are more puzzles and less action, and shooters.

Do you think Atlus's Persona and Digital Devil Saga series have the most intriguing story lines ever?

If I recall, I don't think X-Play had an award for best story-telling. Correct me if I am wrong.
