World of WarCraft: Cataclysm

The incredible expansion of World of Warcraft that began on its launch day in 2004(!) has ended. According to Blizzard's Mike Morhaime, WoW's subscription based has been hovering at around 11.5 million users since 2008.

How do you move the World of Warcraft needle? 1) Get more Chinese people to subscribe. Many of WoW's subscribers are in China, but right now, the "Lich King" expansion has yet to be released to the Communist country.  Surprise: governmental regulations are causing some issues, but they'll hopefully be resolved soon. 2) Release another expansion for the West: Cataclysm is coming later this year.

Personally, I'm not going back to Azeroth, but only because I like it too much, and I just don't have the time I'd need to really give it my attention. What about you? Are you playing WoW? If not, what could make you give it a try?

    I got tired of playing during Burning Crusade, did all the end game content and it was just boring. I had several maxed out characters wearing the highest end gear. When I finally called it quits I sold my account for over $1200 and go my money back. If only I could get my time wasted back.

    Never played. Didn't think the graphics looked that great. I did play Guild Wars for about 3 months. It was fun, but I didn't find anything addictive about it. Tried Dungeon Runners it was okay. None are as addictive to me as Diablo.

    I played, but even with the new expansion packs, there was a real lack of imagination in furthering the story of the game. It was fun for about a year, and then it was just the same thing over an over and over and over.

    Honestly, I had played WoW on and off for about three years, yet it never really stuck to me as something I'd play nonstop for months at a time. Maybe it's the recycled gameplay and content? Maybe it's the horrid playerbase? Perhaps, it's both.

    I am finally done with this game, having moved onto something less life destroying (EVE Online) and demanding and have vowed not to return, because I think we all know what the new expansion will bring -- a higher level cap and more dungeons and quests than you could probably shake a stick at. Woohoo! I've never been a fan of more of the same, especially if it involves recycling and recreating the story you set from the beginning.

    It's called creativity Blizzard! Something I don't think they've ever really had.

    I lost friends to this "game." I have been hoping for it's downfall for years. It is designed to be addictive and that makes its designers malicious.

    I've been meaning to start playing this game since it came out, especially with the new expansion pack coming out soon. But my question is can new players enjoy this game or will we just be fair game to the veterans when we venture out to the field...keep in mind my only reference to this game is that episode of South Park >.<</safety_wrapper&g t;

    Ive played it and quit for about 1 year until BC came out then quit for about another year then came back when WoLK came out and quit about 3 months ago again. I wont come back to wow. redoing the old zones is a huge cop out on blizzards part. an expansion should be something totally new not rehashing old things. oh boy two new races and we get to fly in the old zones ...how long did it take to come up with that idea about 2 whole secs maybe... come on blizzard put wow to rest and focus on getting diablo 3 and starcrat 2 out sometime this century

    I refuse to pay to play a game after I've already bought it. I'll pay for Live, but, that's a service, not a single game and all 360 games have offline modes. I know many, many, MANY WoW players. A couple of those guys are fanatics (we're talking forearm tatoo, Horde cap wearing all-in type people) In conversations, I can understand the allure of the game, I just have no desire to get into it myself.

    If 11.5 million is their steady high mark then they've accomplished a lot. The game is fun, has had long legs, and has a dedicated user base even if you can't please everybody all the time.

    I play it a little bit each day. I usually get my character up a few levels before I call it a day and play again the next day. I average about 8 hours a week probably and I know there's people that double my weekly time in a single day.

    not to sound cheap... but for a colege student trying to move out and still have a social life... 15 bones a month is a little much for something that has been running for 6ish years... ive played it, i enjoyed it, its just all a bit much. i love blizard and all the games within but idk.... the hardest part of starting now would be starting at lvl 1 when most if not all are at least lvl 55 or higher...

    Never played, never will. I refuse to pay to play games online and MMO's just aren't that good. They're just glorified chatrooms. I've too many better console games to finish.
