World of WarCraft: Cataclysm

The incredible expansion of World of Warcraft that began on its launch day in 2004(!) has ended. According to Blizzard's Mike Morhaime, WoW's subscription based has been hovering at around 11.5 million users since 2008.

How do you move the World of Warcraft needle? 1) Get more Chinese people to subscribe. Many of WoW's subscribers are in China, but right now, the "Lich King" expansion has yet to be released to the Communist country.  Surprise: governmental regulations are causing some issues, but they'll hopefully be resolved soon. 2) Release another expansion for the West: Cataclysm is coming later this year.

Personally, I'm not going back to Azeroth, but only because I like it too much, and I just don't have the time I'd need to really give it my attention. What about you? Are you playing WoW? If not, what could make you give it a try?

I've been playing WoW since beta and I am currently taking a break from it until Cataclysm becomes available.

I play a couple hours a day, and I've been playing for a couple years now. Sadly it's the only thing I can play on a mac. I recently bought an xbox 360 and I do play that a lot more than WoW. However, geek is to WoW as Jock is to bars. (Yes I went to college). I have friends in game that I can see every day that I haven't seen in at least a year because of moves and whatnot.

Cataclysm is going to fix a lot of problems in the vanilla WoW experience and add new races. For the ability to fly in vanilla alone, I'm going to be excited.

Currently, the game is nothing but a big snooze. And this is coming from someone with 4 level 80 toons. There's nothing to do but the same boring things every single day. At this level all you have are the same boring ho-hum dungeons. That is if you're willing to wait the 20 or more mins just to get in. Yes, people still play it but not as many as before. Not even close. I canceled due to boredom. II need more then the same stuff all the time. The only thing the devs do are constantly nerf stuff only to have to put it back as before- when they do. Some folks still play but then again some folks are easily pleased. Go figure.

WOW was anouther life. playing once apon a time was great. Now that im married and all of my friends have stopped playing its become very boring. I havnt played in about 8 months now and have no intention to go back. I think the big thing with it is it just takes way to much time to do. Sure in college it was a cheap way to pass the time with friends. The game has changed so much since its release and alot of the aspects that made it so much fun when it first came out seem to have fadded to easy loot and a buch of people crying over their class and how other can do things they cant.

If you lose friends to WoW, you probably aren't that much fun to hang out with. And really, $13 (six month sub) is too expensive? That's a movie in NYC and that gets you two hours of average entertainment.

the only thing that i would wish for on cataclysm is to stop the stuped lv1-80 i have one lv80 and i would love to have others but im not gonna start the grulling process of questing, dying, cursing because of horde campers etc all i want is that if you have at least one lv80 that you could creat another lv60 minimum of any class/race you choose

    Its about TIME.
This game's about 5-6 years old already.

I don't play WoW; never have, never will.

I've been waiting for this game to die off & cause burnout to it's players.
Mainly because it took my BESTFRIEND away from me; him AND his older brother (who I looked up to at some point).

They (Blizzard) just need to focus on working on StarCraft 2 (& Diablo 3).

    Also..REVIVE STARCRAFT GHOST!!!
And don't even THINK about making a "World of StarCraft [WoS]"...omg.

ive played the demo a few times, got to lvl 28 onces and lower levels for other classes multiple other times. but after a while it just gets waaaaaay to boring and the way the graphics are, i hate that, its like playing a giant cartoon. for blizzard ill play starcraft and diablo and the warcraft rts, but not waste money on WoW. if i was going to play an rts id play warhammer where the graphics are more serious, or the new star wars coming out, where even though the graphics are very "WoWish" i love star wars so ill deal with it

Playing it loving it... My guild's been working on Arthas the past three nights and it's kinda rough... All night wiping on one boss etc lol.

My Deathknight is 3rd in line for a Frostmourne. The guild I'm in is decent too so I think if I wait long enough I might get one. I'm looking forward to the day I can stop running random daily heroic for frost badges.

I've been playing for 5 years or so. My rogue has warglaives, and I love my guild.

I played on and off again....I am just sick of the power-trips in the game. If you dont know what your doing, you get shunned.

Its funny to think, most of the players that have the power-trips are the same players that get pushed around in the real world.

I am waiting for better MMO, and it will happen. Going to try EVE online. I hope that will be fun!

I also started to watch the "Guild"...I cant relate, but a lot of players probably can!

They really did need to go back and fix the original zones, Its just soo painful to get to 55ish. Also if wow is a glorified chat room, that would make live a glorified bitch fest. Just keeping things in prospective.

Though you would think they would have dropped the subscription fee down a bit, maybe 7-8 dollars a month. I get its around 15 bucks to see a movie in the theater, but they didn't make me buy my own copy of the movie.

I think a game like Wow is the future of gaming on the consoles and pc's. not the general story or area but the MMO part of any game Racing, Fighting, FPS, whatever but with a lot of others unpredictability will always be there and that's what cool about those games. I personally can't afford a great computer but have played the game.

I had a friend get really into WoW. Luckily he snapped out of it. He'd devote time almost every night to his guild. Looking at it from the outside was pretty sad, so I plan to never play. I love games, but I've never liked the multiplayer experience enough to coordinate when I would play and who I would play with. Seems too much like a job to me.

I played wow once, it took me 4 hours to do one mission. That is too long to play a game. I stop playing that game, after that mission. I don't think, I will ever play it again. I must have some time away from the video game world.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall. About time WoW hit stagnation.

I would play it if not for the $15 monthly subscription fee. If it had subscription packages that were drastically cheaper, or a lifetime subscription like Star Trek Online does, then I would consider getting an account.
